How did YOU prep for natural childbirth?
Posted by: | CommentsI am 36 weeks + 4 days pregnant with baby boy #2! I am planning an at home water birth with a midwife. I am very excited, but would be lying if I said I’m not a little scared as well. This is my second child, and I have very healthy and “normal” pregnancies and deliveries. This will be the first time doing it all natural without medicinal aid, and would LOVE to hear from you mamas that have had babies naturally without medicine. How did you prepare? Were you at home or a birthing center? Have you had other children in a hospital with or without medicine? How do home births compare to hospital? Those are just some samples of questions you could answer, or just tell me of YOUR experiences. If you can be specific, please do! I would LOVE to hear and be encouraged! Thank you all in advance for answering!
Why do woman choose natural childbirth, or waterbirths?
Posted by: | CommentsIm just curious, woman say, I am only having a natural delivery, or Im going to have my baby in the water. Im not trying to sound crass, but is it boast about how strong of a woman you are, or is it because you believe epidurals are not good for babies. I have had 4 children each with an epidural, with a doctor. No home birthing, any of that stuff. I really dont know why anyone would want to. All 4 children healthy as a horse. Just interested in knowing why woman choose to undergo complete hell when drugs are available?
Yes you are right about the needle in the back, I have had unexplainable pain in that area for years that I know is linked to the epidural. I hear ya on that one.
You all rock with your answers. Thank you.
Tips for a Natural Childbirth?
Posted by: | CommentsI am expecting my second baby in July and would like to have as natural and intervention free as possible birth this time around. I had an epidural with my son, and have no regrets, just wanting a different experience this time.
For the women who had a successful drug-free birth/s before, any tips? What worked for you? Positions for birth/labor, massage etc?
Thanks so much, can’t wait to hear your stories!
I do have a midwife this time around…hoping that helps too.
Thanks all so much, I would have chosen a “best” answer but I appreciate all the advice!
Is natural childbirth possible if you have an aversion to bodily fluids?
Posted by: | CommentsI am 38 weeks pregnant and very excited to start my new life! I would like to deliver naturally because I do not want my baby exposed to drugs of any kind. However, I have a pretty big problem with bodily fluids of any kind, especially blood and vaginal secretions. My heart starts pounding when I see or, worse *smell* them and I feel like I’m going to pass out.
What what I understand, after a natural delivery they put the baby onto your chest. Do they wash the baby thoroughly before doing this? Are the nurse’s careful not to touch your hands or face with their own hands (which may have fluids on them?)
My husband tells me to stop worrying since he thinks I am too much of a “princess” to deliver naturally anyway. But I don’t want an epidural for my baby’s sake, and also because I have a phobia about needles.
Do they still put the baby on your chest if you have an epidural? Do they clean the baby thoroughly in that scenario? I just want to do what’s best for my baby AND for me.
Possible to enjoy natural childbirth?
Posted by: | CommentsBesides the pain, is it possible to actually have an enjoyable experience, feeling your baby come out, etc.?
I know it may sound weird, but I heard that some woman actually enjoyed it and managed to overcome the pain, (or even didn’t find it that painful!).
VERY Irritated. Natural childbirth/pain meds/induction?
Posted by: | CommentsSo, I just got off the phone with a good friend of mine. Who happens to be a mother. Now, she went to the regular OB, had an induction, and and epidural. I don’t fault her for that at all…whatever that’s normal, yes?
But me? I believe that birth is natural. Biblically, a pregnancy lasts 10 lunar months (295 days). Well, now it’s been shortened to 40 weeks (280 days). Well, to me, if you aren’t past 295 days, there is no reason to be induced. TO ME. I also think that if you can handle (or think you can) the pain, why use pain meds?? From everything I have heard, it CAN make you groggy, cause you to not clearly remember the birth, and also can affect the baby. I know there are those on both sides of the topic. But I’d rather not take the risk.
Personally, I want to try for my birth to be as natural as possible. I understand that I may go into labor and think “Omg, I was an idiot.” and ask for and epidural the minute I get to the hospital.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I respect each person’s decision for their birth. Do what is right for you. But there is a reason I have a midwife (Birth is natural, intervention isn’t.) and that is because I want to try for natural.
I don’t come down on you for having an epidural, an induction, and having your child the way YOU wanted to. So, why make fun of me, or act like I’m a fool for wanting to?
Idk. Perhaps I’m being hormonal and over-reacting to the situation. After all, the whole subject was based on the fact of my due date being Christmas Eve and her assumption that I would be induced a week earlier. I told her, as I will tell the midwife/doctor/whoever that tries to make me, “I don’t want to be induced. This baby will come when it is ready.” I don’t HAVE to agree to being induced just because a doc or midwife doesn’t want to come in on Christmas. Guess what? That’s what they get paid for!!! Ugh!
Okay…So, If you actually read all that, the point is…have you had a situation like this? Where your birth plan was either called into question (not by a medical professional) or mocked?? How did you handle it?
18 weeks 5 days.
As always, no rude comments/answers. I do report. ![]()
Oh now don’t get me wrong, if there is a MEDICAL reason to be induced, okay. But to be induced because of the timing of my DUE DATE? H*LL NO!!!! And I know it’s painful. I’m not dumb. But…I’ve got a high tolerance for pain due to extordinarily painful periods for YEARS. I went to school hurtin so bad I could barely walk. But…I think if I can handle that, I can TRY to go natural.
Also, I’m not saying that if something comes up and I can’t do it, that I’m going to be a stubborn a$$ about it. I know that if my midwife looks and me and goes, um…we NEED to induce you because of this or that…okay. Or, if I can’t handle the pain, or labor for so long I can no longer take it, okay. I’m flexible. I just WANT these things. It’s why it’s called a birth plan. It’s not in stone. LOL!!
Natural Childbirth or Birth w/pain meds?
Posted by: | CommentsI am 21 years old with my first child. You can critisize me all you want and say I won’t be able to make it without pain meds but I plan to try and I won’t give up. Plus I heard pain meds make your labor go by slower. Its just something I want to do. So I am gonna go for a natural birth.
How many of you mom’s out there went natural? Why and how long was your labor?
And how many of you other mom’s did pain meds? Why and how long was your labor?
I realize every mom is different
Natural childbirth question….tearing??
Posted by: | CommentsI was just wondering, of the women who tore during natural delivery, how bad was the pain of the actual tearing? I’m having my 1st baby end of this month, so I wanted to gauge how bad it might be.(thats the only part of natural birth that scares me) A birth stories I’ve heard say that the contraction pain overshadows the tearing pain so much that you don’t really feel it or not feel it at all……how true is that?
It was my one goal for my labor and delivery with my first to do it au natural… and I did it, and am very proud of that. Now I’m pregnant again and would love to do it again but I just can’t imagine going through that again. My hands are sweating just thinking about it! BUT… I’d really love to pump/psyche myself into doing it! Any suggestions?!
Are you glad you attended? And why do they say wear comfortable clothing will I be doing stretching or something? What will hubby learn from it – ways to support me or when it’s time to go to hospital or what?
This is our 1st and we are worried if we waited to long to sign up and what exactly we will get out of it?? Thanks in advance!!
oh! I am 26 weeks along today.
