You should have had an assessment first by a social worker in the USA because unless you are approved adopters there you will not gain entry clearance for the child . Your going to be waiting a long time before you can bring the baby over because you should have gone through the assessment process first before you adopted. I assume you have adopted the child through the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act however this private adoption is not recognised as an adoption in the USA and so you would probably have to adopt the child legally over there. (I only know of the international legal processes in England as this is my area of work).
You need to start an assessment in the USA ASAP.
Good Luck.

you might talk with a US adoption agency who specializes in adoption from India. The paperwork requirements to bring an adopted child into the US are significant. Not impossible and thousands of people do this. But they are significant. I’d also suggest you join some on-line groups that discuss adoption from India.

like the others have said, you must contact an agency to have an adoption homestudy done in the USA before you can adopt from anywheres. Without the USA approval, this can’t be done. And some countries won’t allow US citizens to adopt from their country.

My wife and I have adopted from India and we have also lived there for three years. What you describe to me sounds very “fishy”. First off I would question if the adoption was done legally since there would have had to be home studies and court appearances in India, not just papers signed by the parents. Also, India does not allow their children to be adopted out of the country unless they have cleared through the formal Indian process first. You can sign what ever you want with the child’s parents but if it is not approved by the Indian courts they will not allow the child to leave the country, nore will any country issue a visa for the child.
The only valid source of info for Indian adoptions is this site: http://www.adoptionindia.nic.in/ It will provide all of the legal and relevant info on both in country and out of country adoptions from India.
