Should I get a rooster?
ByQuestion by Bri: Should I get a rooster?
So I work at a farm and we got a “Parking Lot Donation” Someone dropped off this really sweet rooster, fell asleep in my arms and everything. Well, it’s up for “adoption” I was wondering if roosters can make good pets, I forgot the breed its black with a red face, and where are they legal? Like can you own a rooster in a neighborhood?
They can’t keep him and no one else would even consider it, if I don’t take him they’ll kill him. He is a Australorp breed BTW.

They can make a good pet but there is probably ordnance against having one in town. They also crow at day break which would bother the neighbors. It’s probably a good idea to let some one else adopt it that lives in the country. Why can’t he stay at the farm you work on? Well go ahead and try it and see what happens. If he don’t work out maybe you can find him a good home.

Best check your local ordinances and see if you can keep it. yes they make great pets. I had one that was just as good as any watch dog could be. No one could get near me unless I smoothed his feathers and told him it was okay. LOL

Oh yea they do. My mom got one of my eggs and hatched it out. It was a rooster. She loved this rooster(Jerry Lee). he followed her every where. Bad thing he hated my stepdad. He flew off the house and flogged him so my stepdad threw a board at him and broke his leg. Long story short, 300.00 later he had a pin in his leg and lived another 5-6 years.

Roosters can be good pets ,if you really get to know it. In neighborhoods, I don’t think so because when the roosters does the sound in the morning, not only will it wake you, the rooster can wake up your neighbor. So someone that lives beside you might come over and argue. You can own a rooster, if you own a farm. Good luck.

Check local ordinances. He may not be allowed in your area. But, if you are allowed to then go ahead.
