BPA Free bottles?
ByI’m looking into getting some bottles for my unborn baby. I’m due in July. My question is if I’m breastfeeding and not planning on heating up the bottles with milk in them do I still need BPA bottles. I know heating up plastic is what makes those toxins come out. I’m just curious.
my question is do I need BPA free bottles if I’m breastfeeding and might pump but not HEAT up the bottles. Does the plastic effect my baby if I don’t heat up the bottles??

There are bpa free bottles. The soft plastics… like the ones the Medela breast pump uses are BPA free. You can buy these bottles cheap at Target.
I have breast fed 3 babys…. for some reason the fats in my milk collect once its cold. So I had to heat the milk to get the fats to re-distribute through the rest of the milk.

The best ones to use are the Playtex style bottles. The ones with the liner that you pop in and out. My daughter pumps into the liner; she puts it straight into the freezer or refrigerator; and I can warm it in the bottle warmer. The system works great. My daughter and I definitely recommend it.

if you’re strictly breastfeeding, you won’t need bottles, but if you ever plan on pumping breastmilk to feed from a bottle, then you’ll want to get some bottles.

Even if you weren’t going to heat up the bottles, you would be better off just getting the BPA free bottles anyways. It’s really up to you, but that’s just what I would do. As soon as I found out about that, I threw out all of the bottles that I had that had the 7 in the recycle sign. (That indicates that there is BPA in the plastic)

i never heated milk in the bottles, but i still bought BPA free bottles just in case.
i bought Gerber GentleFlow bottles which are a copy of Avent bottles only BPA free. i used them with Avent nipples.
i think it is better to be safe and just buy the BPA free bottles.
good luck & congrats =)

I have a 4 month old baby and initially I started breast feeding and gave away most of my botles because I didn’t think I would need them. My son started daycare and trying to pump milk became too much for me and I realized I didn’t have enough milk… Needless to say I would suggest having a bottle handy for the unexpected. Espcially for those times when you are out in public and don’t feel comfortable breastfeeding.
Walmart has a 3 pack of BPA free bottles for 2.87! As far as heating up the bottle… you will need to heat it up to sterlize the bottle…

Dr. Browns has some that are coming out in May. Check out their site. I’m due May 31st and plan on breast feeding but I’m buying bottles and I have a pump and such so my husband can feed the baby as well. Google Dr. Browns Bottles.

BPA can leach from the plastic even if they are not heated in most cases (in a research article I read, it stated that one type only seemed to leach when heated, but the others leached whether heated or not).
Go BPA free. They do not have to be heated for the toxins to leach.
