At what age did you stop using a infant rear facing carseat?
ByI have a 7 month old and he is really big boy and to me it seems like in a couple of months he will be too big for the infant car seat. So should I get him a front facing one or are there bigger carseats that also are rear facing?
I am not going to switch it now but maybe in a few months from now…

There are certain laws about when you can place your child in a forward facing seat. Age and weight. I am sure that a 7 month old will not meet those requirements. Look it up for your state.

He has to be 12 months before he can face front. There are some nice convertible seats that fit babies from 5 lbs to toddlers over 40lbs. They can be front or rear facing. We had to buy one because our daughter got too long for her infant seat, she couldn’t put her legs out straight. The doc said it was dangerous.

You can buy the next stage car seat, just look on the box and make sure it’s rear facing also. They do make them. You are supposed to wait until he’s one year. Good luck!

You could get a convertible car seat. He still needs to be rear facing until he’s 1 year old, remember that his neck still needs the extra support, it doesn’t matter if your baby is bigger or smaller.

I am a mother of four and let me tell you the infant carseats are a pain in the ass. But they do have convertible carseats can be used for rear, forward facing and even booster seats when they get older. Just make sure it says convertible they sell them at wal-mart

A child has to be BOTH 12 months and over 20 lbs before you put him forward facing. Until then, he needs to be rear facing, and since he’s too big for his infant car seat, invest in a convertible car seat. These can last for years, and usually the weight limit on these are over 30 lbs. They are both forward and rear facing. Britax is a trusted brand, but pricey. For something gentler on the wallet, Safety First is a good car seat (formerly Cosco).

the standard age is 12 months for forward facing seats. but not sure if they make bigger seats for infants.

Im not sure if its federal or state requirments but I know that in Connectcut they say a child shouldnt be front facing till they are a year old and I forget the weight limit. However, my daughter was 21 inches at birth and seems to get longer every day. We had her front facing at 10 months. When her legs looked like frog legs we decided that was enough. They do make bigger car seats that can rear face then will also front face when the time comes. I got mine for about $100 bucks at walmart a year ago and shell be in it till shes ready for a booster.
I say 7 months is a bit young to be front facing but people told me that 10 months was too young too.

You can’t turn the carseat around (to face the front) until the child is 1 year old AND at least 20 pounds. My daughter was in the infant carrier seat until she was about 9 months old (and her legs got too long for it). At that point, she was put in a convertible car seat (5-40 pounds) rear facing. I didn’t turn her around to face the front until she was about 15 months old and the pediatrician told me I could (she barely weighed 20 pounds at that point..I think she was at 19 and a half pounds)
Most of the larger carseats (like the Graco ones) are what they consider convertible where you can have them rear facing or front facing.

Either 1 year old OR 20 lbs. I put my son in a convertable carseat, face forward around 10 months b/c he was over 20 lbs and his legs were so long he would kick the seat and rock his carseat back and forth. I didn’t feel comfortable with him doing that so I faced him forward. I think the best convertable seats are Britex(he had the Marathon and then the Roundabout).

One year old and 20 lbs. PERIOD!! If you are thinking about facing him forward before that, go to You Tube and look at video about the subject, it will change your mind real quick.
If he is too long for the infant seat, do some research on convertible seats and choose the best one you can afford.

Your child has to be 1 year old AND over 20 pounds. Get a rear facing, convertible carseat for your son. You might think he’s uncomfortable, but I’d think a little leg uncomfort would be much better than a traumatic brain injury, a broken spine or death.
I kept my children rear facing until they were almost 18 months old because that’s how long it took them to be 20 pounds.

Buy a convertible car seat that can be put rear facing. Those who posted it is one year AND 20 pounds are correct. My husband is a police officer and nationally certified to install child safety seats.

It depends on the height and weight of your baby. All car seats comes with a height and weight limit. Consult your Ministry of Transportation if you want to switch to the front facing car seat. We recently bought a front facing car seat for our baby and it also has a reclining option. Make sure which ever car seat you switch to it reclines so if the baby wants to sleep in the car you can recline it comfortable for them.

Buy a convertible car seat. These car seat can be faced in the rear or forward facing position. The one year old rule is outdated and needs to be changed. It is best to keep your child in a rear facing position as long as possible, because it is safer to do so. By keeping them rear facing, it protects them from getting neck and other injuries.
