Can I mix infant cereal with formula before bed?
ByMy 4 month old sometimes has trouble sleeping through the night. She often wakes up hungry. Can i mix infant cereal in her formula at night to help her be more full so she can sleep longer? I know it wont help her learn to eat solids, I just need more sleep!

We started giving it to our son at 2.5 months before bed. 3oz of formula (we use Similac Alimentum) and 1/2 scoop (formula scoop) of rice and/or oatmeal. I also put in a dose of simethecone to help with gas. Our doc said this is okay for a 2.5 month old because the amount of cereal is so small. It did help him sleep better.

Yes, but I doubt it will help her sleep any longer, that’s just a myth.
And also, I meant YES you can spoon feed her, do not put cereal in the bottle. It’s dangerous and bad for your baby.

Ok listen, I know a lot of people will tell you don’t because he can choke but I have another valid reason. Eating and sleeping are too different things, all the cereal does is give the baby an extra hour at most to be full. So your looking at maybe an extra hour, but if your baby does not want to sleep the whole night shes not going to reguardless of how much you feed her. I did use that technique for when I was going on a long trip and couldn’t stop to get a bottle ready. But like said all it does it make her go longer without eating, if she’s not tired she will wake up.

Like all the others, I did it with all four children for the very same reason you want to, I needed sleep. It’s hard to be the mom you really want to be for your children when you are dead tired all day. I knew it was not recommended, but I did what I had to to survive. They’re all close to grown up now and none the “terrible things” they warned about ever happened. And if they do, then you just stop what your doing and try something else.

DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE ON HERE WHO HAS TOLD YOU ITS SAFE TO PUT BABY CEREAL IN A FORMULA FILLED BOTTLE!!!! NEVER DO IT!!
If you’ve heard people say, “Add cereal to your babies bottle and he’ll sleep for 5 hours” or “If your baby constantly wants to nurse or seems hungry, add cereal to the bottle,” know that those are myths and not facts.Your baby gets enough nutrition from breast milk or formula for the first 6 months of life. In fact, many medical experts agree that introducing cereal before 4 months of age can cause food allergies. Additionally, adding cereal to your babies bottle is a bad idea. Period.
