What is the best way to arrange seats for an infant and a toddler in a sedan?
ByWe have a 3 year old and my wife is due with our second child in 10 weeks. What is the best way to arrange their two car seats in a 4 door sedan? Our toddler likes to sit in the middle of the back seat so she can see out, and we’ve had her here for a while because it’s supposed to be the safest place to have her seat. Does it matter if it’s our toddler or the infant who sits in the middle when we start needing two car seats?

We put our sons front facing seat on one side behind the driver and are putting the rear facing one behind the pasanger since we are afraid that our son will smack, or hurt the baby since both are going to be near the doors we put the child safety lockon on so they can’t be opened from the inside. our son likes to look out the window too and like to be closer.

Put the baby in the back in the middle. Just in case someone hits your car from the left or right side of your car.

If you can fit your toddler in the center forward facing (FF) and the infant seat outboard rearfacing (RF), then that would be great. Each step up in carseats (RF to FF, FF harnessed to booster, booster to seatbelt only) is a step DOWN in safety. Your newborn will be very protected simply by RF.
If you can’t fit them next to each other or your toddler bugs the infant, then both seats outboard is fine too!
