When did you start giving your infant honey?and how much?
ByI know about the infant botulism thing but my parents gave me and my sister honey right since birth and same goes for my husband.
Thanks Zack’s mom for your b****** but my parents loved us very much and knew what they were doing.

Its curious that your parents did that. I grew up on a BEE FARM and my parents still knew not to give my brother and i the honey
I was just asking them about it, actually because i had a similar question and thought;
‘hey, i grew up on a honey farm, maybe i got some as an infant’…
But no – Really don’t give it to them until they’re a year old.

Why do you need to give your baby honey? It’s a complete non-necessity. Wait until a year and be save. Nothing is a guarantee that your child will not get sick just because you didn’t. Why risk it?

I waited until after he was one, though now people say to wait until they are 2 years of age. The child classes I attend said it wasn’t just the botulism, it is also that some cannot digest it and are more likely to develope allergies to honey. I think it is up to you and what you think. Make sure you watch after everytime you give it for any reaction. I would say very little to start with just because you don’t want your baby only wanting to eat “sweet” things.

Wait until a year. Botulism is an illness that can be very dangerous to a young baby fed honey. Why would anyone give a young baby honey anyways? What’s the point?

I have a two year old son and he is almost three, i have not given him honey at all unless it is on corn bread. otherwise he gets butter with bread or rolls!

The risk of botulism from honey is quite low, but it DOES exist, and can kill your baby. Since there is no reason a baby under a year has to have honey, why not reduce a small risk to no risk at all and wait.

I waited until both my kids were at least 18 months old

Just because your parents did it doesn’t mean it was a good thing. Never give honey before one year, some sources even say age 2 to be on the safe side. I don’t always agree with Zack’s Mommy but I do on this one.
