When did you stop using the infant bathtub and bath your baby/child in your bathtub?

By pregnantnews

I have a fisher price infant to toddler tub that converts to more of a seat. I really hate the thing!! He seems so tight in it and always slides down. Just curious if I should buy another one or just live with this one is he won’t be in it that long. He is 8 months old.
Yes, my son is sitting up pretty good, a little wobbly, especially when tired! Lol. He was also a preemie so just a tab behind where he should be but catching up!

As long as he can sit up the bath tub is great! He should be plenty ready at 8 months.

As soon as he can sit up unassisted………………just never leave him alone!!!!

I hated giving my daughter baths in the bathtub once she could sit up. All that leaning over made my back hurt. Once she could sit up on her own pretty well, I started bathing her in the kitchen sink. Smaller, I didn’t have to bend over so much, and the sprayer was fun for her!! Once she got too big for the sink she was totally fine to splish splash in the bathtub with no need for a safety seat of any kind. Have fun!

i started putting him in the regular tub once he was well able to sit on his own you know no more of the falling backwards and just keep the water too a minimun and make sure you are right there the entire time …also have the towel and everything you’ll need right where you can reach it ! I love bath time for my kids with all the splashing except for the floor it really gets flooded lol !

My son started to get too long for the infant tub at around 4 months old. We moved him into the big tub at that point. At first, we rolled up a towel under his shoulders and head to keep them elevated, but he would always scoot himself off to lay in the tub and splash around. Eventually, we just layed him in the bottom, until he was old enough to sit up.

I spoke with our pediatrician about this and he said it was perfectly safe to have him lie in the tub in that manner. (We, of course, would only put a few inches of water in the bottom)

I stoped using the bath tub when he baby tub when they could sit up. Then I bathed them in the kitchen sink untill they were about a year old. Just easyer to hold on to them and move around and less room for them to slip around and fall.

I never really had any luck using a baby tub, so after a few times, I just stopped using it. Since babies don’t really get horribly dirty anyhow, we did sponge baths and baby wipe baths until our son was about 3 months old. After that I did sink baths for another month or so. When he was around 5 months old he could ’sit’ pretty well with support, so managing him in the tub and being slippery wasn’t as bad.

He’s 8 months old? Is there a reason that you aren’t bathing him in an actual bath tub? He is sitting strongly by himself now I assume, and if not sits well with support. Why not fill the bath tub with a few inches of water and let him bathe in the tub? If you don’t have a bath tub or aren’t comfortable with that, you can get a storage tupperware container and use that as a make shift tub. Try one that is shallower, stick some non slip designs on the bottom, and fill it with a few inches of water. It should be light enough that you can just dump the water when you’re done.

as soon as he can sit up on his own for the entire bath it will be fine to discard the stupid seat.

I bathed my son in the sink pretty much from day one. It was just easier than those baby bath tubs, and once he could sit up (around 6 months) he had a blast in the water, but I didn’t have to kill my back leaning over the tub.

Once he got a little too big for the sink, I moved him to the tub and would just put a couple inches of water in it and he’d have a ball. Just make sure you have some kind of anti-slip mat on the bottom because babies get slippery and they will slide all over the tub at any age if you don’t have that mat!!

He’s now 2 1/2, and loves his bathtime. I just grab a good book, sit on the edge of the tub and let him play while I get a few chapters read. :)

my little girl is just over 2 months and i bathe her in the tub. but i get in with her so i can hold her better. it’s a great bonding time and gets her used to being in water.

We bought one of those spongy foam tub mats for the tub right away. The infant tub we had was too awkward after about four months just filled regular tub a little and put the foam in the tub. I think babies r us has them and target, they are made by the brand “munchkin”. We used those until she was sitting up, which was 6 months. But we kept using it after that too becuase it was easy. Until she realized how fun the tub is. Hope this helped.

Never used one! I went from sling in the kitchen sink, to bathing in the kitchen sink, and then to bathtub!

I had a tub and after 6 mo I moved her to the big tub and took a bath with her and its good -don’t waste money they will get too big too fast and splash everywhere that was the main reason for the big tub time. they have the chair for sale at toys r us that hangs over to the big tub so you don’t have to be in the tube and it some what supports them- it didn’t fit right on my tub but it may work for you? good concept.

when he/she can sit up on their own

I actually had a terrible infant bathtub also, and hated using it. When my son was old enough to sit up on his own well, I stopped using it. If you’re not comfortable without one, they do make great bath seats. The Aquababy Bath Ring is one I would highly recommend, as it is just a seat that suctions to the bottom of your tub. It says that it is suitable for babies age 7-16 months, and up to 28 pounds. I used one of these for my son after the infant tub, and I absolutely loved it!!
