Why is snapping a infant seat on to a shopping cart bad?

By pregnantnews

I was reading some questions tonight and came across one that said snapping a infant seat on to a shopping cart was bad. I have never heard this before and snap my son’s infant seat to the cart whenever we go shopping. What are the reasons why it is “bad”?

Thank you Yahoo Answers for making me 2nd guess my parenting :)
It makes me feel so much better that I am not the only one who didn’t know this.

Lol, I thought the same thing. I can’t think of anything cos you can still use the belt. But coming back to check answers.

I do this too! I didn’t know it was “bad”. It locks itself in it so I assumed it was fine.

as long as its on there securely and the baby isnt squirming all over the place i think its fine. but if the car seat wont snap on and/or isnt stable and secure on the cart then i wouldnt do it. one thing you could try though if you dont want to do this anymore is get a baby carrier like a hotsling or something, that way your baby is right up against you safely. =]

I think that’s perfectly silly. I think it’s bad not to, because you don’t want the seat coming out of the cart!

It makes the cart top-heavy, and it could tip over and injure your baby. Especially if someone was careless and bumped your cary from the side.

It makes shopping centers nervous, thats all. As long as you don’t leave the cart unattended and drive it around like a mad-woman your baby should be fine. (Assuming it’s clicked into place and secure.)

I think its fine as long as it actually locks in. I’ve used a few carts that the carseat would fit on fine but it wouldn’t actually lock in so I had to put it in the big part instead.
The only other reason I could see for people to say its “bad” is because the cart could possibly tip over. I always worried about that so I made sure to never let go of the cart.

I think it’s a great idea! How’s this for second guessing – I’m on my second baby and didn’t even know you could do that!

Now I have to go shopping tomorrow with my son and try it! Oooooh…I’m a bad girl!

Um. I didn’t know it was. I always do it…and will continue to…It hasn’t hurt anything yet and it’s not like I leave her there.

I had my son’s car seat snapped onto the shopping cart and as I walked to my car through the bumpy parking lot, I noticed that the car seat was gradually shifting toward the side. If I hadn’t noticed, it would have slid right off. So as long as it’s well secured by the strap or something, I don’t see a problem but make sure it’s secured because it can slide sideways.

It is only a bad ieda once the baby is older and moves around alot cause if they try to pull themself up it could cause the seat to fall out of the cart.I have seen this happien. So that is why many store have the cart with the built in seats.you can put a blanket over it or use wipes on it before you put your child in it if your are scared of germs.

I didn’t think it was bad – isn’t that the same as a toddler sitting there? It should be about the same amount of pounds/weight at that point. Also, there shouldn’t be a worry about the cart tipping over if unattended, because whether the baby is in the seat up front or in the bigger part in the back, it shouldn’t be unattended.
