childbirth techniques?

By pregnantnews

Does anyone have personal experience with or know anyone who has used this course for childirth? I was also looking into the Bradley method but there are not any classes around here. I have the book Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way but was wondering if they have a “home study” type program like hypnobabies does. I would love to hear any experiences with either of the techniques!
Sorry, I just reread my question. I left out some words. I was wondering if any of you have tried hypnobabies. And any feedback about that course. Feedback about the Bradley method would be appreciated too!
Sorry, I fail at typing this morning. Do you get the gist of what I am asking?

I’m not sure which childbirth technique you are wanting feedback on, but if you want an unmedicated birth (a great idea for many reasons as I’m sure you know!) the BEST thing to do is to hire a doula to be with you in the hospital. Many doulas-in-training have reduced fees or will even do it for free. To find a doula in your area go to http://www.alace.org or http://www.dona.org

Other books I found very helpful: “Birthing From Within,” “Active Birth,” and “Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth.” I’ve heard very good things about Hypnobabies, but didn’t look into with my last pregnancy.

Good luck!

Hypnobirthing is amazing! Some women who use hypnobirthing in combination with a water birth and hired birth professionals (like a midwife and/or doula) are having drug-free pain-free childbirth. My new book, “Pregnancy & Childbirth Secrets” is a home study program that builds confidence in a woman’s ability to give birth. It will show you exactly what you need to do during labor and delivery. Bradley’s book is ok, but, do you want to learn about childbirth from a man or from a woman? What do women know that men don’t? Lots! Birthing From Within, written by a woman, is also an excellent book you would enjoy reading. Lots of great free information about the new childbirth techniques on my website. I appreciate your desire to learn as much as you can. You are on your way to creating a safe and gentle birth! Congrats!

Before I found Hypnobabies, I read *Birthing From Within* and the techniques that they suggested were incredible! I totally reccomend reading it before Hyonobabies!

I also read *Childbirth Without Fear* that goes to show that childbirth *hurts* b/c of the horror stories that are shared and the lack of knowledge of what our bodies are doing/designed to do.

I chose to use Hypnobabies (Homestudy) and totally changed my perspective on natural birthing. I had a previous hospital birth that was OK, but too many common & unneccessary medical interventions. Second time around, I went into labor expecting pressure, not pain and pressure is what I got. I kept thinking, when is this going to get harder, like with my first, but it never did. I was able to manage my pressure b/c I KNEW what my body was doing and why. When it came time to push, it was far from quiet! I became like a mother lioness moaning from deep within my belly with each pressure wave. My baby was born after about 12-15 minutes of pushing and I really didn’t have to do much work – my body pushed her out for the most part.

I took the Bradley method for our first child. We were able to have a natural birth in the hospital The only bad thing I would have to say about the Bradley method is the emphasis on the side-lying position. In our class that is the position we tried the most and in the book it makes out like it is optimal. It is not. Moving around in labor can be benificial. I was in much more pain lying on my side than I was on my hands an knees or in water. The Bradley method is good for making parents who are self advocates.

As I said with our first we had a natural hospital birth. Afterwords I became a doula. With my second baby we didn’t bother with a childbirth class. Our baby was born at home in water.

I haven’t tried Hypnobabies or Bradley, but I can’t speak highly enough of Birthing From Within by Pam England and Rob Horowitz. If you live in their area (New Mexico?), they do offer classes, but the book was extremely helpful to me. The book uses a lot of art therapy techniques. I admit I have never made a piece of birth art, but, as a musician, the techniques really spoke to me. The main message behind the method is relaxation and trust in your own body.

Birthing From Within is a little anti-establishment, so I countered it with The Birth Book by Martha Sears. That one is somewhat old, but there may be a newer edition by now. Those two books made my second birth a natural, healthy, satisfying experience, and I trust them to make this birth even better.

My first birth was your typical over-managed hospital birth, with vaccuum extraction and deep episiotomy after 38 hours of labor.

I wanted something different for myself and my baby the 2nd time around. I read a LOT, and decided to go all natural with a midwife and the Hypnobabies home study course. We originally planned home birth, but a few factors made us decide to transfer to a free standing birth center, so we could be close to a good hospital just in case (she was 4 weeks early, at small risk for group b strep infection, and also at some risk for blood incompatibility issues because I’m rh negative) Anyhooo…

My water broke without labor at 36 weeks. It was 43 hours after that before my labor finally kicked in. In a hospital, it would have been a csection after 24 hours. I was very comfortable and at peace in that time. My baby was in a poor position and my cervix was totally posterior. We decided that since it had been nearly 2 days, my midwife would do an internal exam. I was only at 2cm dilated, but my cervix was very stretchy. The baby’s head wasnt pushing down on it and allowing it to open. My midwife could feel her trying to move around and get into position, but things just werent working well. We’d tried every natural induction technique. So my midwife used her hands to turn the baby’s head. Then she manually pulled my cervix forward and dilated it. I went into a deep state of relaxation during all of this, and felt nothing. I didnt even have a sense of how much time was passing. It was surreal. It should have been very painful, but I was completely relaxed. She was able to dilate me to 8cm easily, but every time I got up to use the bathroom, I’d come back and be back down to 2 cm. This went on for about 6 hours, but again, I had no idea that time was even passing. Finally, in the last hour, I went from 2 to 10 centimeters and pushing. It was the most amazing feeling in the world. My body started pushing without any concious effort from me! And then, it was so overwhelming that I just HAD to push. I had a bad back, and the pain in my back during contractions was worse than anything. I got distracted and would start to tense up when a contraction hit, but my mom would use the “release!” cue on me, and I’d go limp like a noodle and feel nothing. It was incredible. My beautiful daughter was born, and I was on cloud 9. We all curled up for a little nap. My midwife brought us Thai food, and then I was up and around and feeling like a whole new person! People’s jaws just dropped when they saw me up and about and chatting like nothing had happened, lol! Just maybe 4 hours after birth, we packed up and went home.

I highly recommend Hypnobabies to anyone! It changed my life in a way I cant describe. There is a hypnobabies yahoo group that you should join.

Also, a MUST watch is “The Business of Being Born”. It will change your life too! You can watch it for free online here: http://quicksilverscreen.com/watch?video=45525
