Natural Child Birth Using Hypnosis?
ByI am 5 months pregnant with my 3rd baby and after two vaginal deliveries I am considering a natural birth using hypnosis. My first labor was 22 hours and the second was 12 hours both with epidurals that did not work correctly. I have done some online searching but other than a regular birthing class at the hospital my options are limited concerning natural child birth classes in my area. I have found a home study course for Hypnobabies online and wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this class or with hypno birthing in general. I would love any suggestions and opinions!

Hello,
My name is Melanie, and I am a clinical hypnotherapist. Hypnosis is wonderful for childbirth. There are many different options of how to use it, but one that is very popular involves using hypnoanesthesia. Instead of traditional anesthesia, you use the power of your mind to numb parts of your body so you don’t experience pain. It takes several sessions because you learn how to do it yourself during the delivery. The hypnosis you will find on videotapes will be different. I believe those just help you to relax your mind and body during the delivery. That will be helpful, but it’s not the same as the hypnoanesthesia.

I’ve read a little bit about hypnobirthing and I think it is similar to the Bradley method. I used the Bradley method with all four of my births. It uses total relaxation to prevent uterine cramps. Look for the book, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way.
