Has anyone used hypnobirthing? If not what kind of pain relief did you use?

By pregnantnews

Hi! I am 27 weeks pregnant and I am looking into hypnobirthing. I was just wondering if anybody on here has used this technique for birthing. If so how was your expirience? What medium did you use to learn hypnobirthing techniques? If you haven’t used hypnobirthing what kind of pain relief did you use? How effective was it? What worked best for you? Thanks for the information!

I’ve used techniques from the Bradley Method Book and I’m soon to have #4. Can’t complain. I just try to relax as much as possible and have few distractions.
My midwife teaches a hypnobirthing class, but I’ve never taken it.

i used and epidural, and it was heavenly to me cause i experenced really bad contractions.

I haven’t used hypnobirthing, but I’ve had two friends who did. One had a very difficult delivery, but made it through without medication.
I took a Lamaze class and got an epidural at 8 cm. It was good for me. It allowed me to rally my strength for pushing. They had to turn the epi off b/c the cord was wrapped around my daughter’s neck (it makes for more effective pushing if you can really feel it).
I liked going through most of labor without medication because I was more mobile. However, I had never felt so happy as watching the first contraction on the monitor after the epi. I couldn’t feel a thing. (Holding my daughter quickly surpassed that moment).
Good luck!

I tried morphine when in labour with my son but I did NOT like it, I didn’t like feeling like I was in a dream. I got an epidural and loved it and plan on having another one for this delivery as well.

I tried listening to to the hypnobirthing cds and was just not believing it. It wasn’t for me. I did read up on labor and prepare as much as possible. I got some fabulous advice, I just went with slow, controlled breathing. I didn’t take time to learn any. I knew I would be able to work it out when I was in labor. It worked great, well, at least until transition. Honestly, I don’t think anything would have worked at that point. Thankfully, transition only lasts a few minutes. I was kind of loopy from all that endorphins at that point anyways.

I hired a doula and she was very helpful when my coping plan stop being useful.

The shower also helped a lot. The warm water was nice and the quiet time to concentrate on dealing with the contractions was good.

Good luck, trust your body and you will be fine.
