Luckily, they did cut the pill up before insertion and this all was explained much more than is shown in the video. We cut out a lot for the sake of brevity (over seven total hours of footage makes for some extremely boring bits.)
Anyway, thank you for the information and I hope others read this too!

Very interesting! I would have probably made a different choice if I had heard/read of this before going in for the induction.

The best way to understand Cytotec’s appropriateness in the induction of labor is to read the pharmaceutical insert the manufacturer packages with it. It states explicitly that it should not be used to induce labor.
I had Cytotec with my second born son. It was traumatic.

Cytotec has a history of causing uterine ruptures. It comes in a pill form (for stomach ulcers as the midwife explained) but needs to be cut into 4’s (a more conservative dose to avoid uterine rupture). Hence, the dosage varies because the pill crumbles. It is, however, beneficial for hospitals because it costs significantly less than a dose of another option like prostaglandin gels.

I figured it was much more traumatic to keep a baby in a NICU with a catheter in her hand for 4 days than to induce labor using as natural means as possible. I wouldn’t recommend my choice to everyone, but in our situation it just made sense. I would have loved to wait, and the induction did make me incredibly nervous, but as you see it all turned out great!

We decided to do an induction because I have a history of fast labor (5 hours for first baby) and they wanted to be sure I had the antibiotics in my system within 3 hours of the birth. We took a lot of time to make the decision. My first daughter was in the hospital with an IV of antibiotics for 4 days because I wasn’t in the hospital long enough before she was born to be certain all the B-Strep was dead and she showed signs of infection. I wanted to avoid that happening again.

From what I understood about Mesoprostil, it was topical and safer than pitocin for inducing labor. I looked online very quickly and didn’t find anything specifically about the dangers of using it for INDUCTIONS, though there was some mention of premature birth happening when used on pregnant women. Could you enlighten me about your resource(s)? I am interested to know why it’s dangerous. Continued on next comment…

I am curious as to why they used Cytotec (which is incredibly dangerous for inductions) and induced you for Group B strep?
