C-Sections, classes and surgery?
ByI am trying to find out if mothers-to-be who are planning on having a C-section bother with Lamaze classes? How long does a C-section usually take? And what might happen if a mother goes into labor when she needs the C-section?

I doubt they would bother with lamaze classes….and if the woman went into labor before a planned c-section, they would perform the c-section that day…..I have had one, though it was not planned and it happened fairly quickly,,,,I would say 30 minutes tops!

it only takes several minuets for a c-section. some mothers planning to have a c-secton do go on with lamaze becasue it is very helpful in teaching you how to focus your pain else where, lol. if the mom is in labor when they go to preform sa c section, they will give her a epidural and still perform the c-section as normal, maybe they will be a little quick to get you to surgery. but everything is still normal from what i understand.

I never planned my C- Section. I did want a natural birth. But i never went to Lamaze classes. My family (mother and mother in law) plus watching a video on it helped me to deal with the breathing.
I was induced at 41wks with syntoconin and was in labour for 8 hours. I had hypertension and my baby was in distress so the syntoconin was stopped. I was told if i continued, the risk would be that my baby may pass away as he was stuck in the pelvic cavity (he was facing sideways). They couldnt turn him around as he had not dropped enough for forcep delivery.
I signed declaration papers (for liability purposes) for the C-Section and was whisked off to theatre. Within 5mins baby came out at 7lb 12oz. He was perfect and he was healthy.
I was given an epidural within the 2nd hour of labour so all they had to do was top up the dosage while i was on the theatre table and i was wide awake for the duration. I just loved hearing my son’s first cry.

why bother with the classes if having a caesar.
mine took approx. 30 minutes – but you dont wake up straight away only to be told what you had
but I must warn you – its very painful afterwards for up to 6 wks especially if its your first

Mine took 45 minutes…I had my tubes tied during it so otherwise it might have been faster. You don’t have to take any classes before it…I don’t know how they would be much help anyhow. If you want to take a class for something, infant care and CPR would be helpful ones…it’s amazing how much we don’t know about babies when it’s time to take our own home (just my personal experience…I was too scared to sleep for a day or two after I brought her home).
If you have a scheduled c-section, the doctor will be checking for dialation for a few weeks before it. That would be a good clue if you were going to go into labor soon. If you think your labor is beginning, you can always go to the labor and delivery department at your hospital and they’ll check you (lots of mommies-to-be make a trip or two there before they’re in labor for real). If labor begins before the c-section is scheduled, they’ll usually do the c-section right then.
If you want to know how a c-section feels and what the recovery is like, email me and I’ll tell you how mine went
