Child birthing/Lamaze classes?
ByIt’s about that time for me to be looking into these kind of classes. I’m wondering if they are worth it?? I know a lot of people who paid for them, then ended up having a C-section or something. I know you can never FULLY prepare yourself for what could happen and what happens during labor. But how many of you took them and thought they were beneficial and how many of you took them and would’ve been fine without them???
Thanks in advance!

I don’t know if it is true in all places but I had a c-section and if my bf had not gone threw the classes with me he would not have been allowed in the operating room with me.

We took a class at my hospital that went thru everything…it gave you relaxation excersises for you and had ur hubby or SO involved….it also went over C-section and newborn…it went thru what is going to happen once baby is born and different things to do and watch for…it was once a week for 6 weeks…it was a great class and we met a lot of other couples that were due around the same time….
If nothing else you can meet other mommies and couples going thru this with you!

I went through birthing classes for both of my pregnancies. I am a firm believer in knowledge being power and you learn about many things, not just labor.
My second pregnancy was almost 6 years after my first and it was the first pregnancy for my husband, so he wanted to go. I figured been there, done that; but was willing to go for him. Man was I glad. So many things had changed since I had had my first child.
You should call your health provider. Many medical insurances will pick up the cost of birthing classes.

if you have a good coach like a woman who has done lamaze ..sister mom ect…it works GREAT. The problem comes when you panic forget what you learned and dont apply it. You need that coach to bring you back to earth and to focus on the breathing

I’m taking birthing class through my hospital which is nice because I’m getting all the paper work done and familiar with the hospital. But one way to look at it Did you grandmother survive labor without the classes? I want to take them because I’m a first time mom and have NO IDEA what to expect and any info would be nice

We paid for them and went to 1 of the 2 classes. They were the biggest waste of my money ever! The crap they tell you is stuff that pretty much everyone with a vagina already knows. Honestly the best things that I learned were from watching shows on discovery health channel. Even my husband agreed that they were more educational. I was a first time mom and soooo nervous. Honestly I told my husband that birthing class made me more nervous because they make you feel like you need to bring sooo much more to the hospital than you really need to. If you want to feel even more unprepared for childbirth then take the class. I thought it was a waste of time and money.
Seriously watch the discovery health channel and you will learn sooooooooooooooooooooo much more than the child birth class will teach you. Not only that, once you’ve watched a few you know exactly what’s going to happen once you get in the delivery room. You’ll know what the docs are talking about and more than likely what’s going to happen next.
