First pregnancy, Lamaze class question. :)?

By pregnantnews

I’m 28 weeks with a little boy inside me:)

How many of you took lamaze classes? Was it beneficial? When do you take them(how many weeks).

Yes, I know I could get this information if I called, but I’m at work and wanted to get some answers:) Thanks so much for your time!

I didn’t take lamaze classes because to me their patterned breathing is contrary to my beliefs about childbirth.

Relaxed mouth and low noises = relaxed uterus and vagina.

Tense, forced, high pitched breathing = tense uterus and vagina = more pain.

In my opinion its more beneficial for your labor coach, once your in active labor, everything you learned goes out the window. Make sure they pay the most attention!

don’t waste your time…lol….when your in pain you for get to breathe sometimes….lol….i took the class and when i was in labor the only thing i use was the counting….1-10….but after that nothing….you can do it! many of moms around the world have had babies for ever and i don’t think they took Lamaze….your a strong person….just believe in yourself and everything will go smooth…..best of luck

I took a class with my first and again with my second, since my kids were over 4 years apart. It helped a lot. Now I am pregnant with my third and still remember some of what I learned. It will help you to stay in control. I think that you have to be atleast 24 weeks for most classes.

I would recommend a labor doula instead.

I did not have Lamaze, seems to be a lot of effort and money to learn to breathe differently. Go to the library and get books on different birthing methods. Read “What to Expect When Your Expecting” The pregnancy Bible!! I had my son emergency C-Section a month early, but I still don’t believe I would have taken the classes. Why pay money to have someone tell YOU how to have YOUR baby? There is no guarantee Lamaze will even help you.
