Is it possible to have a natural birth, without using a “method” like lamaze or bradley, etc?
ByMy boyfriend works at night, making it impossible for us to attend birthing classes together.
I like the idea of a natural birth, but has anyone done it without one of those “methods” or a doula?

I never learn Lamaze or Bradley and I had 2 boys naturaly. So I would say yes. Very possible.

Of course it is. I’m not taking any classes, and I’m giving birth naturally at a birth center that doesn’t offer any sort of medication for pain relief.
The main key is to get your body as relaxed as possible. If that means laboring in a tub, or listening to soothing music, then do it. When your body is limp and relaxed, your uterine muscles will work in harmony, and won’t tense up. You also won’t have the fight or flight response and cause the release of catecholamine hormones that cause pain.
Read Hypnobirthing, the Mongan Method, Birthing within, and Ina May Gaskin’s guide to Childbirth.

i didn’t take any classes nor did i have a doula and i had a natural birth and it went just fine. i didn’t even really read anything about birth other than what i remember in high school so when i started i was basically lost however they pretty much walk you through and answer any questions you may have during your labor. some people say it is easier if you take the classes however like i said i didn’t take or go to anything and i did just fine, also i was a young monther 20 when i had my son. no help from family other than my babys father and he was just there for moral support. good luck and congrads on your little one

My sunday school teacher had to have her first one all natural. She didn’t want to take any kind of birthing classes because she didn’t want to know what was going on down there. lol. You need to try to go to a class so you can at least learn to breathe right because that is one problem that comes up…they go into labor and don’t know how to breathe properly. Congrats on your pregnancy, and good luck. This is an interesting question to me and I want to know what other people say too. one star.

Probably a good idea to get someone else to go to the class with you. Then you can make a choice of whether you want to use this method or not. It seems like whether you take this class or not you’re still “going it alone.”

Lots of women have done it. However, I think it would make it easier to plan and prepare how you deal with the pain. People compare it to running a marathon without training. I’m going to try to do it with the Bradley method without taking the classes. (12 week classes, but I only have 5 weeks left in my pregnancy). I bought 2 Bradley books, Husband-Coached Childbirth, and Natural Childbirth the Bradley way. I also called a nearby Bradley instructor and she said she would offer us a short class or two whenever we had time, just to give us a crash course on the most important stuff. My husband also works nights, so I read the books during the day, practice what I can alone, and then we practice together after dinner, before he leaves for work. Whenever we would normally sit down and watch tv together, we practice instead…

i did not take any child birth classes like lamaze or anything and i delivered my first baby without pain medications. its amazing how your body just automatically knows what to do. just try to focus away from the pain and try to stay relaxed. its hard but can definitely be done. my biggest problem was not breathing during contractions, i was holding my breath through them which made things worse.
