lamaze class overrated and unnecessary?
Byi have signed up for an all day lamaze class at the advice of the nursing staff at my drs office. (the class is at the drs office) but every mom that i have talked to has said that it is a waste of time. did you benifit from taking a lamaze class? i am planning on getting an epidural so everyone i know is saying dont even bother with the class. i think my drs office probably wants to make more money, so they are going to really suggest it. i signed up for the tour of the hospital and a breastfeeding class which i still plan on attending but im having second thoughts about the whole lamaze thing…what is your experiance?

I think it is a waste of time, unless you know nothing about child birth. They give you the dirty on child birth so that might be helpful.

Is all it is is unnatural breathing, and teaching you how to be a good patient. Waste of money. They will go over if you get pit, if you get an epidural, etc. Get yourself a good Bradley book and read it instead.

I never took lamaze class and I did just fine. I’m sure it could come in useful but I dont believe its necessary.

I did lamaze class but was at my hospital for free for first time mommys. Which I went to my first one. It helped me out. They tell you about labor and want choices of pain medicine you want. Give you idea;s want to pack in your hospital to go bag. And teaching your breathing stuff you can do during labor of contractions. And let you know when to call your doctor or leave for the hospital. It helped me out alot.

This is our first baby so I know nothing about child birth. I too plan on getting an epidural but my husband and I still signed up for a child birthing class. I don’t think it’s a lamaze class but more of how child birth actually goes, etc….
We are also taking an infant care class on what to expect the first year with the baby.
maybe look into one of those classes instead of a lamaze class.
good luck

It’s a waste of time!!! I went to 1 2hr. class w/ a friend of mine when I was preg. w/ my 1st. When you hit that delivery room, you throw all that crap out the window. And you just do what feels natural to you.
P.S. If you get and epidural, you don’t feel anything anyway, (other than a little pressure), so your not freaking out and having to concentrate on your breathing in the first place.

i went with my first and it was fun but not needed if you are doing the epidermal. it is for mothers who want to do it all natural. it teaches you different ways of breathing to help with the pain. you forget it when you going through labor anyway.

its good to get together with those going through the same thing as you and an expert if you have a lot of questions but if you dont’ then its not worth it …

i went to an all day lamaze class, and its beneficial…BUT you can learn EVERYTHING they teach in a book or even youtube videos! Trust me, the only way it will benefit you is when they show you the things that actually go into your body…such as the epidural tube, the stick thingy the use to break your water, and etc. But spending your money on things you can find out yourself is ridiculous! its not worth it….hope i helped! GOOD LUCK!

i didnt do lamaze and i had a fine delivery wit hno problems. it sounded like a waste of time to me too, and like u everyone i talked to said the same thing. its not hard to just breath and push, and when ur in labor/pushing i can almost garantee the last thing ull be thinking of is what u learnd in a class!

Lamaze is wonderful because even if you dont plan on using it, it teaches great breathing techniques you can use anytime. Plus the bonding between you and hubby or you and any partner you choose is fun.

HA ha ha I did it and all that stuff they teach you goes out the window. I did use the relaxation techniques while I was in labor to get through the discomfort. I have had 2 vag. deliveries. My son was born 8 months ago and I’m 13 weeks along now ( i know) I don’t see myself doing it again but for the 1st time I found it somewhat useful for labor not the delivery. I only went for the 1st preg. and I used the relaxation skills for 1,2 and I’ll do it for 3 also.

I didn’t have any med.s and wish i could of went to all the classes…With my 2nd i was like i alreay gave birth once i’m not going. Wish i would of the poor nusre that was with me had to stay with me the hole time to help me with breathing…with this one my 3rd i’m going i’ve gone to 2 classes already and i really like it. 1. you meet other soon to be moms 2. u get to see what’s goign to be happen’in 3. i feel that it just made alot of the fears go away…….But my classes are free so i don’t know maybe urs is just trying to make moeny….i say it all depends on the person teach it.

I personally didn’t think it was a waste of time. But, most women do.
I enjoyed it because it introduced you to other couples experiencing the same thing as you. It also allowed the husband’s to really get a feel for what we ladies were going through when the nurses brought in the lovely charts of how the baby grows and fits into the body. It did teach great techniques just in case you wanted to try the natural route for the birthing process. Finally, it was also very comforting to be around other women going through their pregnancies and to hear their stories.
I do admit some of the information I already knew, but it’s something you do together with your partner….and it totally focuses on the baby…which brings you closer during that class. It’s a very intimate experience and I enjoyed it overall.

I took it, once, with my first child, and it did nothing for me… I found out just as much (actually, more) from books… However, some women *do* get something out of it, and, if they do, it wasn’t a waste of their time.
