lamaze classes, which would you prefer?

By pregnantnews

has anyone ever taken a lamaze class via DVD instead of taking the class. My doc told me to sign up for classes but they are so expensive by me and my insurance does noes cover it. So I was looking online and I found some interesting clips of this dvd: HAVING YOUR BABY! A Lamaze Prepared Childbirth Class. and it was good and a fraction of the course. I wanted to know has anyone ever taken a DVD lamaze class, would they recommend it. Also has anyone taken both, which would you say is more informative. if anything, I will have to take the class if it is better. thanks in advance for your thoughtfulness.

BTW: 20 weeks pregnant with first. God Bless

Look into the Bradley Method as well. I have a few friends that did this method and loved every minute of it! I’ve done research on it as well and it is what I plan on doing. It also provides a way for you and your husband to bond more before the baby comes.

The DVDs are Ok and have the same information, but the classes are much better. It is really helpful to be in a class with other parents and an instructor who can answer you individual and personal questions. It’s also wonderful to be able to share stories and fears with other people in the same place as you are, not to mention it can be great networking for postpartum support. All the best to you!

While I took the actual class, I think a good, informative DVD would probably help just as much. It’s better than nothing at all. Personally I’m all for prepared childbirth classes even though some people think they’re a waste. But really, after learning all you can about it you go from asking the “am I in labor?” questions to answering them. ;) I’m not trying to sound elitist, but it’s just that I learned *so much* about my body from taking that class and doing my own research, especially in preparing for the birth of my second child.

Whatever questions you have you can always ask your OB/midwife or do your own research to fill in, but I would recommend getting the DVD!
