prepared childbirth classes? this is just completely random?

By pregnantnews

So this is just to get everyone’s opinions or stories. Has anyone NOT done prepared childbirth classes. Like Lamaze classes and all that? if you or someone you know has not done them, what was the reason behind not doing them? My cousin says she doesn’t want to do them because they are too expensive and she wants everything to be a surprise when she goes into labor but personally i want a smooth and easy delivery so i did them.

I did them but my best friend didn’t – due to the expenses.

I’ll tell you though – those child birthing classes do not automatically make labor smooth and easy.

i took a labor and delivery class. it was free. i have kaiser, and all those types of classes are free.

there was nothing smooth and easy with my labor that ended with an unwanted c-section.

I didn’t do them cause i got a lot of advice from family members. They basically only teach you breathing techniques. You can always go online and watch videos of childbirth classes.

I don’t plan on doing them. They are a waste of time and money, in my opinion. Every single woman I know has told me that once you get into the labour room you forget everything anyways and just do whatever you can to stay as comfortable as possible.
But if they make you feel more comfortable about what is about to happen then go for it. I know what happens during labour, I don’t need them to tell me lol. And I don’t need breathing techniques because, honestly, I know I won’t remember them. I’ll be panting and screaming and swearing like a sailor either way lol.

i never had any child birth classes and the whole thing seemed to go just fine.the dr and nurses helped out alot. i have the same reasons for not taking classes like your cousin.

Here in Australia all basic classes are under the free health care system. I think there are three birthing/labour classes. I am doing them as they are free and I have just signed up to do Hypnobirthing classes…. I strongly recommend this for you now… pain free labour and birth are almost promised after these classes.

My aunt took lamaze classes and said that they didnt help her when she had her daughter, she said it only helps her now when she is stressed like Yoga lol. She said when it came down to the day lamaze was the last thing on her mind.
I had my daughter 3 months ago and I didnt take any class, the nurses pretty much told me what to do and I did great. Thats what RN are for, unless u are planning on doing an at home delivery I dont think childbirth classes are needed. After the birth the nurses will tell you how to care for the baby.
