What is your opinion on Lamaze??
ByWhat is your opinion on Lamaze classes? I am on baby number 4 and with my first two I had no choice I had to have an epidural. I had complications with them during delivery and they didn’t know if they would have to take them c-section… Lucky I did a normal birth. With my 3rd child I had an epidural 4 hours before delivery. I want to go natural this time do you think Lamaze is worth it? I know the pain of having contractions. When I got the epidural the last time my contractions were off the charts and 3 minutes apart. My delivery with all three was less than 30 minutes when I started pushing. The last kid took 9 minutes when I started pushing. So I think that it would be fast again. What are your thoughts?

If I was ever to go natural (highly doubt it, lol) I would opt for a water birth and definitely take some classes (more for my partner than for me I think).

I had an epidural with my first, 8lb6oz, and with my second I had no epidural cuz the doc placed it wrong. When the baby got into the birth canal, and I was dilated to a 9, I was trying hard not to push cuz I had no doc yet. I completely forgot the breathing they taught me to stop pushing. They gave me a shot in my iv. It didn’t stop the pain, it just made me not care how loud I was after that. I was in kind of a haze, basically because I was so afraid of the pain, so when the nurse finally got right in my face and held up a finger, she said “HEY, BLOW OUT THE CANDLE” I gave her a go to he11 look, and then thought why not? Once I started this, things went great, the Lamaze helped me so much once I had someone reminding me what to do when. I had a 10lb6oz girl. I pushed for 3 hours with my first baby, and with my 2nd it was 4 pushes and done! Your body works better if you can feel what you are doing. I will never have another epidural!

I would hire a doula, not take lamaze. I think its not very helpful like having someone there to coach you and help you through. They basically teach relaxation and breathing and for me it was NOT helpful. The class I took had you put a clothes pin, like to hand out your clothes on a line on your ear to compair to labor pain, THAT IS NOT WHAT LABOR FEELS LIKE!!!! I would hire a doula you like for the best chance at a natural delivery.

Honestly, I think a Lamaze class would only be good for you if it was a one-on-one or for those who have already had at least one child. The classes teach you what happens (which you already know), what could happen (which you pretty much already know). If you want to go natural, you could have a private course which could be really specific to your needs and situation. But there are other options as well.
Hypno-birthing is gaining popularity and is really specific to dealing with the pain during labor. It is a technique to try to mildly self-hypnotize yourself (ie, really, really relax) which can lessen the feelings of pain and relax your body helping to quicken labor. You definitely should look into it.
The other option is to investigate natural methods of pain relief such as the bath, the birth ball, focusing on an outside object or focusing internally, changing positions, breathing, etc.
You already know the pain of childbirth, so I think your battle is pretty well won. Once you make the decision to not have pain meds, you won’t need them. You can handle it (you already have). Yes, chances are it will be faster this time and you will do great. If it would make you feel better by taking a class, then go for it – only you can decide.
Good luck to you
Also the idea of a doula is a great one! She can be there, answering questions, motivating and suggest different techniques to you.
