When I go into labor I’m not taking pain medication. Being that I’m on a budget, should I take Lamaze?
ByOr is it a waste of money?

I’d save your Lamaze money and get pain meds during birth.

I had 3 kids with no meds and did not take lamaze. But I would have loved to have Meds – my babies just came too fast.
Good Luck

You will soon change your mind once your in labour lol. Money isn’t everything!
Whats more important is a safe birth for your child, not how much it will cost you to deliver! crazy!

Consider grabbing a book about lamaze and bradley method form a bookstore b4 paying for the classes.
By the way i am pretty sure the asker did not mean that they are on a budget and thus not having pain meds. I think she is choosing to go all natural with no drugs and is wondering if Lamaze is worth the money.

The local community centers usually offer birthing classes for a VERY small charge. I think it was $15 for my (ex)wife when we had our first. She did all three with no pain meds.
Women have been giving birth for 50,000 years with no pain meds so it’s not like it’s going to kill you to not have them.

Lamaze is well worth the time and money, especially if this is your first baby. We took the classes with my first, and I needed no meds, it was painful but if you really listen in class, and put in the effort it is very doable. They are very honest about what to expect, so it does ease your fears of the unknown. As silly as it may sound, the breathing and concentration that they teach you make a world of difference.
Several years later I had another child, didnt take the classes because I figured I remembered enough, nope. I ended up with the meds in the IV ( no epidural ) for about the last half hour of labor.
I say, go for the classes, and dont be afraid. Women have been doing this for many many years both with and without meds. You will do fine.

You don’t need Lamaze, I gave birth with nothing for the pain & I never took any classes & I was just fine. (I didn’t go into it thinking I wouldn’t get an epidural either, by the time I needed one it was too late, my baby was coming FAST.) When you give birth, everything sort of just comes naturally, trust me.

Whether you plan on taking pain meds or not, a good birthing class is a worthy investment. Just be sure to research which class you take, I spent $200 on a birthing class (I was also planning on no meds), and really only learned about what to expect, not much about pain management. I ended up with an epi, but the class had at least educated me on that, haha. My Dr. told me you will typically get more from a class with a longer time span, such as 4 weekly classes versus a crash course (4 hours in one day).

Get the drugs. The issue with Lamaze is that you usually have to pay for the classes and when you go into the delivery room the nurses will help you through everything anyways. I didn’t have classes and every nurse I had talked me through everything. Also, I went 15 hours and over 3 hours of pushing before my emergency c-section with no drugs -not by choice, my epidural was put in wrong and trust me you will want drugs. I take pain very well but after that long of being awake and trying to push the pain just tires you out more quickly.
