Anyone have experience in having a natural childbirth and/or waterbirth?
ByI’m planning to have my baby at a birthing center (waterbirth), with a midwife. I’m wondering if anyone has had a natural childbirth and/or waterbirth and how it was for them, how it went, etc. Thanks!

i had to not by choice, it really hurt , but not as bad as i thought. 1 tip…let gravity help you! contractions hurt worse than the pushing. pushing actually eases the pain some. i hope you can do it. it made me feel very strong being able to go natural, specially since i planned on getting drugs cuz i thought i was a huge wimp.

I’ve given birth naturally twice (well actually 3 times if you count my most recent delivery where they turned the epidural off for the delivery). I can tell you that in my experience a labour/delivery of any length done naturally is EXTREMELY painful and stressful. My first labour/delivery was 27 hours and like you I thought I could do it naturally and I chose a hospital that didn’t do epidurals so I was stuck with my decision which I then regretted because I was in terrible pain for sooooooo long and couldn’t do anything about it. My first baby was posterior which is I understand one of the most painful ways to deliver.
My second natural delivery was much faster, under 2 hours, and because it was so short I was able to endure it. With my most recent delivery, however, I was screaming for a c-section by the time I started pushing because the pain was so awful and I was freaking out because I couldn’t deal with it after 14 hours of labour.
I would recommend that you keep your options open. It’s great if you can follow through with a natural birth but if you change your mind you want to make sure you have the best pain relief options available to you.
Good luck!!

I had 2 of my children completely naturally after having a bad reaction to a demerol shot with my first birth. It really wasn’t that bad – with my second, I had an epesiotomy, and that kind of sucked, but with my daughter, they got out the birthing ball, and it felt so good that I barely got off it, pushed 3 times, and she was born. That thing is great! It takes a lot of the pressure off, and almost provides a gentle counter-pressure. And you can roll around on it so you can wriggle during contractions, or move to a more comfortable position.
And I absolutely loved having a midwife. I decide next week if I’m going to stick with a closer, and more accessible OB or try and find a midwife in a neighboring town.

I have had four natural births, three of them were in the birth center, one in the car. I did not do water birth. I actually enjoyed my births. I used the Bradley method with all of mine. It works great.

I had a natural birth with only gas and air. Took 15 hours and i pushed my son out with no assistance. However the pain was absolutely horrendous, i was screaming in agony for half that time. And when i finally gave birth i was vomiting and traumatised. Good luck with that. I say take the painkillers.
