This book A – Z For a Healthy Pregnancy and Natural Childbirth is an excellent resource for pregnant women and for professionals working with pregnant women. I am a doula (professional birth support), and it has become my desk reference for holistic care in pregnancy and birth. I strongly recommend it for those who are interested in a healthy, natural pregnancy and childbirth.

Ms. Bloemraad-de Boer writes in a straight forward, easy to read, concise manner. She provides a description of pregnancy related symptoms or irritations (e.g. Heartburn, anemia, stretch marks) Her “Golden Tips” for what you can do to treat or improve the symptoms, nutritional advice, lifestyle advice, supplements, homeopathy, herbs or care providers such as acupuncturists, reflexolgist etc. She gives her educated advice on what works well, and what does not.

Dotted between the extensive resources for every pregnancy complaint imaginable is easy to understand information on the changes in your body, writing your birth plan, creating a visualization for your birth, hiring a doula, due date and many other important things that you are considering during your pregnancy. There is even some great recipes for inspiring healthy, nourishing meals.

What appeals is this is not a book you sit down and read cover to cover, it is a resources that you can flip through and find quickly the information you need. The only thing the book misses is an index, so despite the information being listed alphabetically, sometimes you have to search to find what you are looking for.

This book is absolutely a must have. My pregnancy library is vast- and this one book is on my desk or in my bag at all times. It is the only book I won’t “lend” to my clients, they have to have their own copy!

I met Jacky when I was trying to become pregnant with my second child. She was amazingly resourceful, calming, informed and encouraging with all aspects of getting past two miscarriages and carrying a healthy baby to term. She combines knowledge and experience from around the world. She has been trained and is practicing in a European hospital setting, yet is also expert in techniques of Chinese herbs and accupuncture, and serves as a volunteer midwife trainer in rural Africa. I am a natural skeptic, yet I found I could trust her completely, and 11 months after consulting with Jacky, I had my full-term, 10/10 apgar baby in my arms.

In a perfect world, every expectant mom would be able to have Jacky help them in person. This book is the next best thing.

I have never written a book review before on Amazon, although I have ordered from the website so many times. I felt compelled to write a review for this book because I felt very strongly about it while I was reading it. I enjoyed the content and found a lot of good and useful information, HOWEVER…. The information was unnecessarily repetitive and just makes the book longer with the same information when it could be longer with new information AND my biggest peeve of all is the editing! I had to stop counting early on the number of grammatical errors I encountered. It got so bad that there was probably at least one on most of the pages! I don’t know how a book could be published and released in this manner but it was really atrocious and I feel that it disrespects the readers when we pay money for a book and it’s presented to us in this way. I hope the publisher sees this, makes the necessary changes and then re-releases it.
