Can some of share your stories of Natural Childbirth?
By pregnantnewsWe know we want a midwife, but have not yet decided whether to have a home birth or deliver in a birthing center at our hospital. Can some of you share your experiences, good or bad, with either of these options?
Again, I’m really only interested in responses that talk about birthing centers or homebirth, not traditional hospital settings. Thanks
I meant natural as in not clinical.

I had natural childbirth but not by choice. She was born in the car. I think a hospital birth is better just in case.

in Russia almost everybody goes with natural birth. ya, it hurts, but everybody survives, and forgets about the pain very soon.
But, by all means, delivery should be in the hospital. Hospitals are hospitals, you can not predict any complications. In hospitals they have all – doctors, instruments, medicine for all kind of cases. Hope for the best, but be prepared, so to say…

I delivered both of my children natural. With my first I had an episiotomy (where the doctor makes an incision) they will do a local for that. With my second I didn’t have anything at all and I ripped a little bit. It was a little more painful with the second child, because I could feel where he gave me a stitch. I don’t know if a midwife would do an episiotomy or not, but I would recommend one. I did not have an epidural and I would recommend against that unless you had to have a c-section. Good luck with your baby, and don’t worry, whatever decision you make will be the right one for you.

I’m pregnant with my first, so I don’t have a story of my own. My mom had 2 kids, both natural child birth in a hospital. She used self-hypnosis for the pain and claims that it worked. She experienced very little pain. Good luck.

I agreed to all. Go to the hospital. Everything is there for you if you ever needed. A shot of EPIDURAL would spice your energy and strength up. You’ll be fully energized when your baby comes. Good luck!

well I was thinking of getting a midwife too. I had a premi and was not able to. I knew I did not want an epidural so I deliver at the hospital and did it without medication. Not bad my water broke at 10:45 am contractions were very crap like through the day, they got pretty strong by about 10:00 pm and she was born by 12:06 am. I will definitely do it again.

We had a home birth and LOVED it! I’m so glad we did it at home. I felt WAY more relaxed and at ease while in labor at home. We didn’t have to drive anywhere (both before or after the birth). Our baby was born on the bed and while I took a shower, the midwives changed the sheets, put the dirty ones in the laundry and when I got out I layed in bed with our newborn son and just cuddled and breastfed in our home. It was beautiful and I couldn’t imagine it any other way. I think it is a very personal decision where you want to give birth. Think about where you would be most at ease. For most people that seems to be a hospital (mostly because I think there is a lot of fear perpetuated around birth). Trust your instincts – whether it be at home or a birth center, it sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck!

GO FOR IT! My first was born in the hospital without pain meds (though I was on an IV for Group B Strep) and it SUCKED because of the hospital staff! I loved my actual birth and NO WAY would I have an epi. I felt the pain but my body knew what it was suppose to do and just did it until the nurses wanted be tied down to the bed. I’m pregnant again and delivering a free-standing birth center with a midwife. I can’t tell you how it will be but I will recommend you do not go near the hospital, even the birth center at the hospital. It’s still a hospital and there are still OB’s who want to cut you up. The only reason I’m going to the birth center instead of a homebirth is because we live really far from a hospital and my dh is scared to be so far away (he has severe anxiety about these sorts of things.) Visit http://www.mothering.com/discussions to find more info. They have a homebirthing board and lots of woman who went the natural way.
Good luck!
