Did you have successful natural childbirth following an emergency cesarean with the first?

By pregnantnews

Which was better? Which was less painful? Would you have had a planned cesarean if you had known what natural childbirth was like. Did you opt for natural with your second, only to find it turned into an emergency? Lots of questions. Answer what you can. I’m just decided how to have my baby after having an emergency cesarean with the first?

I had an emergency c-section with my first. I am not pregnant again and do not plan to be until after college, but I plan to have that one naturally. My SIL had her first one vaginally (with drugs) and the second was a c-section. She said that the c-section was a lot worse because of the recovery. Good luck and sorry it wasn’t really helpful…

First emergency C-section
Second planned

When trying to decide what to do with my second I too had a ton of questions. I really wanted to go natural but was unsure. My Dr. advised me to look at the first. Was it a baby issue or a mom issue. Did I have to have a C-section because the size of the baby, position of the baby, or something to do with mom. For me it was me that “caused” the first C-section. I never dilated past 5 and was pushing……yikes! Anyway because it was a female issue he advised me that the likelihood of a repeat was pretty high. Therefore we scheduled a repeat C-section to avoid an emergency which is way more stressful. Had it been a baby issue it would have been a bit more hopeful to go natural with my second. Hope that helps some……..Just me and my life.

I had an emergency csection with my first and a successful VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) with my second. No one thought it would be successful as size of the baby was my problem, my first got stuck on my pubic bone, and my second was measuring just as large as my first. In fact, they both weighed exactly the same at birth!

I whole-heartedly believe my second was the better scenario.

Both were painful labors (I went through full labor and three hours of pushing with my first before the csection) although my epidural failed with my second so overall the labor was much more painful with her since I had no working pain meds until I was 9.5 cm (this was just a fluke – the doc put the epi into a blood vessel instead of my spinal column). Recovery, on the other hand, was soooo much easier with a vaginal birth. I tore pretty badly and even that was nothing in comparison to the recovery from major abdominal surgery. Which is even more important once you already have kids as you need to take care of them as well as your baby.

If I have more kids I will never plan for another c-section, only for a VBAC. If I need to have a csection, so be it, but I would much prefer vaginal.

My sister in law had to have a c-section with her 1st but delivered her 2nd, 3rd and 4th naturally. She did not even get cut she tore perfectly on her own. She said she prefers naturally over c-section, since she was not in so much pain nor did she have to be on bed rest after delivery.
