Does it pay to take childbirth prep classes if I’m not having natural childbirth?
ByMy dr. recommended I take these classes which are 12 hours total and go over breathing & relaxation techniques during labor & delivery. The prob is my husband works really long hours and would be hard pressed to get there, and he thinks it’s a waste of time. He was there when his ex wife had their daughter and he can’t imagine what they’re going to talk about for 12 hours.
I already know I want an epidural and all the pain meds they will give me, so I do I really need these breathing techniques? Are they worth going to or can I find this info out somewhere else without spending 4 nights in a class?

Unless you can convince your baby to come on demand, lol. the classes might come in handy as you will be in labour for a little while before they give you an epidural. Normally an epidural isn’t administered until after you have passed 3cm dilation and 75% effacement because it can halt the progress too. The classes will also go through what happens when you go into labour, how long it can take and what measures they will go to before resorting to a cesarean. But in the end not everyone goes to the antenatal classes and still has healthy babies. The choice is yours Hun.

You know you want an epidural and stuff but what about while you are waiting for the Dr to come and do it? I am currently pregnant with my third child and am going to the lessons because they are so helpful!

Listen it is up to you but I was there for my sisters who pregnancy and I mean the whole thing, I took her to the doctors for her check ups and I was there during her labour and she didn’t go to any of the classes and she really well. besides you can find just about anything on the internet, at the doctors office and you can even ask your mid wife as they always have hand outs that can really help. Also if you are going to have a support person I suggest you sit down with this person and tell them exactly what you want even if you are not going to have a natural birth because during your labour you may change your mind about some things and if you have one person there who knows what you want they can remind you about that and can talk to you about whether or not you really want to change curtain aspects of you labour. Also you should get your support person to read all of the information you read. It helps a lot.

perhaps you could contact the Dr. or person running the class to find out what they’ll be doing. Pass it on to your Mr. and see if he’s interested or is worth his time. It would be nice if you could both go…he’s already done this, but you’re a rookie. Best wishes to your family!
