I have had 4 children. the first was a c-section because of cephlo-pelvic disproportion, the second was v-bac, (vaginal birth after c-sect) the third was v-bac, and the fourth was all natural. ( i did have 2 Tylenol after her birth for the headache i had given myself from screaming at her daddy).
I kinda liked the natural better, although it was very painful and i felt every movement, i was up and walking 30 min. after her delivery. the epidurals I had with 2 and 3 i had to wait for a few hours to let it wear off and regain feeling, I had headaches, chills, low blood pressure, etc from epi meds. I don't know if i could have done natural for my first one but I probably would have tried. (Epidurals are heaven sent though when it comes to pain, and you don't go loony when you get it. You stay alert, just no pain!!!!)

Labor and delivery are extremely painful. I had an epidural with my first, nothing with the second (not by choice) and my third I had to have an unexpected c-section. Give me the pain relief any day. And if you want to do it natural and end up needing the drugs for pain, don't beat yourself up about it. The result is still the same regardless of what methods you use. A beautiful baby!

If you choose to have a natural child birth you are amazing. I tried to deliver my first on pitosin for 26 hours naturally. after that long I chose to get an epidural. My advice to you is get a doula they help alot. they know pressure points that relieve the pain from your abdomen. If you have a high pain tollerance then you should be just fine delivering a child naturally as long as your labor isn't abnormally long.

Well, I had to have an epidural in for my 1st one as he was born breech, and they had to cut me to get him out in the end. My second child, again was around the wrong way, not breech, just facing around the wrong way. They induced me with her and gave me something to speed up the birth, and it was painful, so I wanted to get an epidural, but just before they got me set up for it, my daughter came. Yes it was painful, but afterwards I just got up and held her. I felt great. My 3rd child was a face first, again in a difficult position, just my bloody luck, but he was in such a hurry to come out. I broke water and somehow got me and him up onto the bed before he bungy jumped out. It scared the midwife because he would have landed on the floor. He's been the same ever since. So I've had 3 of the worst kinds of birth needed/wanted afterwards drugs, but I didn't have a choice really. But I felt really good after the births that I had drug free. Yes it hurts, but as I felt it, you roll with the wave of pains, breath and move through it, and just remember your not a failure if you do decide you need the drugs, the reward comes afterwards.

First. Every woman's body and how it reacts to childbirth is different. But I have to say this...DON'T TRY TO BE A HERO!!! My aunt, who is an OBY/GYN told me from the beginning to just get the epi because there is no point in putting yourself through that PAIN!! Even though you haven't stated why you prefer to go natural, do you really want to focus on all that pain you are gonna have while you are having contractions? It can be pretty intense! Plus I really think it makes you really really tired and even grumpier than you would normally be if you just got an epidural (no pain drugs, just the anesthetic).

I had my first (and only) child vaginally with only an epidural. I got my first dose at about 2:45 am and had 3 or 4 doses until I started pushing at about 10:30 am. I pushed her out at 11:15 am. Towards the end, they wouldn't give me more because epi they wanted me to be able to feel myself push. It didn't hurt that badly (but it still hurt) and to tell you the truth, you probably aren't going to remember how bad it felt anyway. Its all worth it in the end. I was out of bed getting cleaned up and walking to go get something to eat like 45 minutes after I had her, so don't worry about an epidural incompacitating you.

It totally depends on the person, the amount of support she gets durning, how focused/metatative mom can get durning, the size of the baby and even the baby's position. Some women have very little or no pain, while others have pain so bad they swear off having another child.

I was in less pain if I could get up and move around. With my first I got stuck on the bed and having to sit there was aweful. I'm not one that can meditate by myself and with my first I was stuck on the labor bed and not allowed to get up. I ended up getting an epidural because my labor was progressing slowly and every contraction hurt. With my third I was able to drastically reduce the labor pains by bouncing on a labor ball (kinda like an excerise ball).

if you can afford it, get the doula or a real midwife. Both will sit right there with you through the entire labor helping you reduce the pain, giving you ideas on what might work, talking to the nurses (those commando nurses are horrible, but it seems every hospital has one). I can not recommend having one with you enough.

It's so painful that most women prefer to get a hypodermic needle to the back rather than go through it. Seriously, an epidural is a wonderful, wonderful thing. You are still totally and completely aware, you still hurt, you still push...but you are able to concentrate on the birth more and less on the pain. But hey, if you can do it...more power to you. It makes for great bragging rights if nothing else.

I had my first child on 10/23 at 31 weeks of pregnancy...from the 1st contraction to the time my son was born was 6 hours...the 1st 3 hours the pain was very manageable...the last 3 it was pretty intense. Although I felt the contractions in my lower belly...My BACK was hurting so bad. I could not lay on my back at all...I had to lay on my side most of the time. I wanted and epidural but my labor progressed so quickly there wasn't time for one...the part I found surprisingly painful is when the told me to push...I have heard so many women say it felt better to push...NO WAY...that was really uncomfortable...it really hurt. So they told me to push and I stopped in the middle of pushing and announced to the whole room that I was not going to do it. And then the funniest thing happened...MY BODY kinda just pushed my son out on it's own. It was like I had no control and he was out on the 3rd push...it happened so fast that they told me to STOP pushing because I was tearing but like I said...it felt like I had no control. Hope this helps!
