How was your recovery after natural childbirth?

By pregnantnews

For mothers who had a natural birth.

After the birth is over how long did you spend in the hospital, how long until you were up and walking around, when did the pain subside?

Any other info you could include would be great!

Thanks for your answers

I gave birth on a Monday afternoon and we left the hospital at noon on Wednesday.

I was up walking around about 15 mins after he was born. The nurse made me get up.

I was in pain for a good 4 weeks. And no pain at all after 6 weeks. I also had a lot of stitches.

My hospital is required to keep you in two days after birth if there were no complications.

I had a great recovery, other than a small infection that was treated with anti biotic. It helps that I didn’t tear much. The first time trying to stand was rough and I needed help to get up right but after the first 24 hours I was able to walk around perfectly fine.

I will say (TMI) that going number 2 was really really bad. I was still constipated and a little sore. I also would get pressure in my pelvic region, which was probably just contractions.

i had 2 small stiches and i had to use this bottle to put warm water in it and squirt it on me when i would pee so it wouldnt burn so bad, lol. i said in the hospital a total of 3 days. the day after delivery i was walking around fine, except for the huge pad. i was just a little sore for a couple of weeks after. i think trying to go to the bathroom was the worst part when i got home. that and bending over. good luck

I was in the hospital for 2 days after having both my boys vaginally. After about 3 days with my first I could stop taking pain meds for the cramps but with my second it took a week and I was more sore. I had stitches with both and they didnt bother me much other than the fact that they itched but my hospital gives a bottle of dermoplast which is a spray that numbs a little bit to relieve itching and pain. Most women bleed the full 4 to 6 weeks after having a baby my first I bled about 2 weeks and with this one my son is 9 days old and yesterday and today I have only spotted a little bit (none today yet).

EDIT- I had a squirt bottle too. I had an epidural so about an hour and a half after both boys I was up walking around. The first few days I wasnt really sore at all just cramping. The soreness set in after I came home. My legs were sore and my hips but that may just be because my doctor told me to do nothing but sit on the couch and the day I left the hospital I went to walmart for groceries and went to babies r us the next day for some more preemie clothes for my son. I was also told not to lift anything heavier than my baby but I have a 20 lb 13 month old so I have to!

WIth each child I wsa out within 48 hours of birth. I was up walking as soon as they took the iv out of me(4-5 hours after birth max). With 1st child I got hemmroids and so I was on a sitting on a donut for a while. I think I was back to good as new in a few days. I was tired of course. I did not breastfeed so I cant tell you about that. I had a period for quite a while with #1 but #2 was easier. I knew what to expect.

Just try to read upas much as you can and not get tense during birth. It helps if you are not tense. As hard as it is try to be as relaxed as possible, things will go smoother

piece of cake.

I left the hospital the very next day.
I had no idea how sore my body would be after childbirth. I was sore and tired. I was back to my usual self in about 2 weeks, maybe even less than that. Everyone is different. Since babies sleep 20 hours out of the day try and get as much rest as you can.

Good Luck

I have a 6 month old daughter and she was a natural birth. I wasn’t prepared for it I wanted the drugs but I went in to the hospital already at 8 centimeters. I was released from the hospital 24 hours after she was born. I was sore for a few days but I felt actually better after she was born than I did with my two sons who I had with an Epidural. I was more bonded with her and not drowsy and sleepy. I had an incredible amount of energy .

I had my daughter on a Monday at about 5:12 pm… I was in labor for awhile, had an epidural, pushed about five times and was done! I couldn’t walk til about 7 though because my leg was still numb from the epidural… I was sore but they give you medicine so that it is not unbearable… I was in the hospital a total of three days, and that was because they made me stay! I felt great, I was up and around in no time… the only bad thing was that I had an episiotomy and I had a spot that took forever to heal up all the way. Other than that, It was such an amazing experience!

I gave birth at about 7ish and I was up getting the baby at about 12ish. It took a few days before I was walking like normal, though. Listen to your body. If youre light headed on in extreme pain, don’t push it.

11

my first baby was with an epidural.
my second baby was natural because she arrived quickly. i felt like a million bucks immediately. i wished i could have gone home right away.

every hospitals have different rules of how long you have to stay. you always have to stay longer after your first child.

with my first child it took up to the moment i was leaving (3 days later)to actually move around more then to just go to the bathroom. i think most commonly the first is the worst. my second i was up sitting on the couch hours later and left 24 hours after birth. my third i was up pretty much immediately also in hospital 2 days though. a big thing is if you tear or get cut it takes a while to recover from that even after you leave the hospital. that i would say is the worst of all the pains because going to the bathroom is hell. for my second and third births for about 6 weeks everytime i went to the bathroom i would cry (not trying to scare you) but i felt as if i was ripping my stitches right out! wrose thing EVER

I had a great experience! I gave birth Fri. AM and went home Sunday. I walked around with no problem, I wasn’t in any pain at all. The only thing that bothered me was later on after I had been home awhile, my stitches started hurting a little when they were healing, and I was moving from my old apt. to my new one. I was basically going up and down stairs all day, and had to finally take it easy. That was it though.

Every woman is different as well as every labor and delivery is. It could be longer for some depending on how big the baby was, if u had an episiotomy (cut and stitching) or any complications. But for my experience…I will cut it short and just give u my experience for my most recent birth 2 months ago, I have 3 other kids and dont want to rant and babble..but they were all roughly the same healing times etc…

I gave birth feb 26th. I had a pretty easy but painful labor and delivery. Was in labor for 1 hour before pushing but had no epidural. My baby weighed 8lbs 10oz but i didnt have to get cut nore did i tear, I did however had what my doctor called “a little burn like paper cut” in my labia. I was able to stand and walk around and take a shower the day after giving birth and fel pretty ok, only discomfort I had was burning during urination from the “minor burn/cut”. I stayed in the hospital from thursday and left sunday late afternoon. I was able to walk around my home and take showers etc with no problems and no pains…The pain during urination lasted about 4 days total. I completely stopped bleeding at 2 1/2 weeks postpartum and healed wonderfully. So needless to say it was ok for me and the healing time went great.
The only time my recovery took a bit longer was with 2 of my other children whom were pretty big babies 9lbs+ and I had to be cut and had to be given stitches which took 6-8 weeks for me to FULLY recover and my 3rd baby only took 2 weeks to recover fully as I had no cut or stitching with him…. Recovery time is much quicker if u dont have an episiotomy in my opinion.

If u give birth naturally I highly recommend a few things that will help the pain subside and will aid in quicker healing..Buy yourself a big container of Tucks moistened pads..u can buy them at walmart that come with 100 for about 5.00. They are premoistened with witch hazel, everytime u use the restroom u pat the area with the pad front to back instead of using toilet paper, these things work wonders!
Make sure u use the “cleansing bottle” they give u in the hospital everyday,at home. Put some very warm water and spray yourself fron to back everytime u use the restroom, and buy yourself some “overnight or heavy flow”sanitary pads because u will need them…And over the counter motrin for the after birth pains aka cramps…Good luck!

By natural do you just mean vaginal? I had a vaginal birth with an epidural and I didn’t have any tearing. The hospital requires a 2 day stay where I was and I really didn’t have any pain once the epidural wore off except for my uterus still contracting because they gave me pitocin after the birth to help my uterus.

I bled for up to 7 weeks and the only pain I had was due to all of the bleeding down there which they gave me something for I believe it’s called Sitz Baths? It was due to all of the moisture down there.

I couldn’t walk on my own until the second day because during my labor they had to put me on magnesium sulfate to lower my blood pressure and it totally makes you weak. When I tried to walk on my own before hand I literally almost fell until the nurse grabbed me.

Hi Ya,

Congrats on your baby,

for me with my 3 natural births i found that the pain was over with as soon as the child was born. i was able to get up as soon as i was cleaned up to have a bath and then home within 3 days..
i was poorly with my 1st and spent 5 days in but i was up and about as normal. my 2nd and 3rd i just had the option to stay in a few days to get to know my babies and have time alone before going home to a hectic house.. but all was fine as soon as they were born!
