If you were offered classes on natural childbirth and had a birth assistant with you every step of the way?

If you were offered classes on natural childbirth and had a birth assistant with you every step of the way, Would you consider it?

For me, I believe birth is a natural process and medication is not needed. I gave birth to my son naturally but before he was born I got terrible negitive feedback from woman that had already given birth (My son is my first born). I was told by many co workers that I wouldn’t be able to do it that there was no way. And the vast majority of woman thought this way.

So I’m curious what your thoughts on it are. Maybe woman now a days aren’t as educated on natural childbirth as we used to be.

I’d have a natural birth even if I didn’t have a birth assistant! I had one with my son and I fully plan on having one this time around

I did not have classes or a birth assistant and I planned on having a natural birth.

I went into labor on a weds morning and my water broke in the afternoon. My blood pressure sky rocketed and after 24 hours of labor they said my blood pressure was to the point where it was either epidural or c-section or risk my health. So I did an epidural and ended up being in labor for 6 more hours. Once my blood pressure came down things started movin.

I too was told that there was no way I could give birth naturally and was really upset that I wasn’t able to because those who doubted me are saying “i told you so” still 3 weeks later. =/

Honestly those first 24 hours weren’t that horrible. Sure it was painful but my husband would massage my back when it got really bad.

I have a 9 month old son under an amazing system in Australia, mostly called ‘Birth Centres’. They are basically a section of the hospital for childbirth which is more decorated like a hotel – you have a big birthing bath, en suite bathroom, large bed, calming colours, music etc.

Best of all, you have one midwife with you all the way through your pregnancy, encouraging, positive, full of the facts of birth which don’t necessarily include medication (and shouldn’t!) However, you are in the hospital should the need arise for medical intervention.

I went into pregnancy not knowing what kind of birth I should have, but with the wisdom and kind encouragement of my midwife I went into labour feeling strong, capable and positive about natural births.

This system is under public healthcare but has limited availability – if you ask me, it’s the only way to go though! I had such a great experience.

I’m planning my birth with no drugs, no inducing, no c-section and no cutting/IV etc….I agree many people are VERY westernized in their thinking of what birth is about. There are a lot of unnecessary c-sections due to unnecessary inductions.

every births different 6 outta 10 ppl get c-sections now so like me I was gunna have to get 1 weither I wanted to or not I went til 7 cm on pitocin which makes contraction worse I was so tired & when I gotta epidural I was thinkin I shoulda got 1 as soon as I got there so unless ur power trip is worth laboring 4 hours Im glad they came out with epidurals I think it made it a less tramatic & painful experaince

I couldn’t do it, well I could but I chose not to. I have spine and hip problems so I had that pain in addition to my contraction pain… I just wouldn’t want to be in constant pain for hours upon hours. I had an epidural with my daughter and plan on getting one with my next. I honestly don’t see a reason to be in that much pain if I don’t have to be unless my child was at risk.
