Of course it hurts. I delivered 3 of my 4 with no meds though. Just remember, it is a good, natural pain, it is necessary pain, and it will go away soon.

natural birth, sure it hurts, (get an epidurral) but you will forget the pain as soon as you see that little face come out, and it is the most magical, and overwhelming experiance in your whole life. and hun, dont be scared, our bodies were made to bear, and have children. women have been doing it for centuries!

Its so easy to be scared BUT DONT BE. your body is amazing and it will surprise you! Of course child birth hurts– but c-sections are even worse— especially the pain with recovery for months afterwards. Naturally childbirth can be painful.. but trust me.. you will be so focused on breathing and pushing and seeing your baby- you wont care. The pain will be the least of your worries. Good luck and try not to freak out! Your body takes over and you will amazed and how well you do!

I haven’t had a child yet, but i’ve seen 2 live births and im sure it does hurt like hell. But, you can take comfort in a few things…one, the pain is temporary and the payoff is great (a new baby) and two, literally billions of women have gone before you in this, and if they can do it, so can u. Good luck!!

make sure you get an epidural and make sure you are already in labour before they give it to you. Apparantly the epidural hurts alot, but if you are already in the pain of labour you dont even feel it.

The contractions are what really hurts. The actual birth is more pressure than anything it is more uncomfortable. But that may just be my opinion.

awwww hun I was scared too. An epidural helps if you want to try that. I wish I could tell you it didn’t hurt but it does. One thing that helps a lot is knowing that this pain has an end and a purpose. Try taking a lamaze class to help you get through. As for tearing…that was my biggest fear too. You will not feel the tear itself happening…you numb up a bit naturally when you are pushing. Honestly there is so much going on and it is so emotional it just doesn’t seem so bad. You’ll be uncomfortable afterwards but it really is not bad. Just keep yourself clean…they’ll explain all that after labour. Good luck hun….you will be so surprised at your own strength!

Well I know that it will hurt and the pain will be something you’ve never felt before, but if you use the right techniques to focus during labor and delivery then you can get through it with very minimal pain. I know that I had an epidural and felt no pain at all just a lot of pressure when it came time to push. I’d say if you are not good with pain to get an epidural because if you tense up during the contractions it hurts worse and takes longer for labor to progress. I hope this helps, but I will not lie before the epidural and using no pain meds can really hurt.

Iam due the same time as you. And doing natural child birth out of nessesity.
Being afraid and having fear over it WILL make it worse. You need to allow yourself to relax and realize that your body is perfectly PERFECTLY designed to handle the birth process without any medication, or intervention. So relax.
As far as tearing, if you’re going to tear, you’re going to tear you cant do anythign about it. The nerves that connect to your brain in that area become so stretched that they practically disconnect. Theres not many of them there to begin with, but during labor as the baby is coming out and you’re stretching you cannot feel your vagina hardly at all. The contractions take up all your attention. Besides that, once you finally get to the place where the baby is being born, you are so elated and focused on getting the job at hand done (we’re talking a few minutes here, generally just a matter of 60-90 seconds to get past the shoulders) that you dont care what your body is doing, or how its doing it.
This was a HUGE fear that I had, and all my friends and relative assured me that anything you feel during delivery in the vaginal region is minimal, and doesnt really cross your mind.
You’ll be fine. Look into things like water birth and birthing stools. Or even a dula.
You’ll be just fine. We both will be, we’re baby making machine’s after all.

It does hurt alot, I tried to be strong but as it got more intense I went with the epidural. This pregnancy I plan to give it a try without the epidural. It’s only as painful as YOU think it is, some women can handle it, so good luck and try your best to have it natural. By the way, it’s so painful that the tear you get down there isn’t even felt, it doesn’t compare to the contractions. You’ll soon know what I mean. Also, the pain you feel is not really in the vagina, it’s more around your lower back and abdomen. This is my experience.

Well, yes. It hurts. That’s why I had an epidural(and boy was that a good choice). Talk to your doctor about pain options, sometimes it’s best to go that way. If you are sensitive to pain, don’t feel pressured to go natural. Moms who freak out in the delivery room can do more harm than good. There are lots of natural pain options available too. It’s not too late to start a lamaze class, you could also look into giving birth in water. I wouldn’t really worry about the skin splitting, you won’t be worried and the tearing is usually minimal. I got stitches down there for a small tear and it’s all just fine in that area. The best pain medication is education. Read alot about different options you have, talk to your doctor about your fears. Everything will be okay.

Yes it hurts a lot, and it can stress out everyone around you. Meditation can help with the pain and kegel stretching can help with the tearing. A slow labor is better for not tearing as things have time to stretch out, but can be very rough on the baby and might not be an option. As a father of four I think the epidural is wonderful. It takes so much stress out of the picture.

I had a natural child birth. No medication no epidural. I wanted it that way. I’m not going to tell you that it didn’t hurt because it did, but you don’t have to yell and scream. People see think that is what you do when you have a baby and you don’t have to. I did tear because I just wanted to push that didn’t hurt. What hurt the most was the stitches that was worse than the labor. It doesn’t take long for them to do it though. After that I felt no pain. I took a shower put my clothes(actual clothes not a gown and robe). I felt great. Once it’s over. It’s over. The stitches did bother me if I moved a certain way though. Millions of women give birth everyday that don’t recieve any medications. It’s not as bad as it seems.

Natural birth 3 times and I was scared every time! Yes it does hurt a lot but once the baby is in your arms you forget the pain. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about what pain management is an option for you. You can try natural birth and if it’s not for you ask for medication. Good luck and congrats on baby!

well that baby has to come out somehow. I have had two girls and the delivery was fine. (I had an epidural though.) I am a big supporter of the epidural if possible. I did tear with my first, but once again the epidural made me feel nothing. I did get to feel the contractions, and was perfectly capable of pushing out my own girls. I am now 28 weeks pregnant with a boy, and am planning on getting an epidural. The pain is very minimal this way, I actually watched wheel of fortune, and price is right inbetween pushing. It made the experience, pain free and enjoyable. It was great. Everything will be fine, and know even without an epidural or pain killers once that baby is placed in your arms, the pain will disapear. It will all be forgoten as soon as your see your baby. congrats

Pain is different for everyone but for me, I felt no pain at all. In fact I only asked for the epidural because I had been in labor for so long (23 hours). I asked for it during hour 13. I thought I would be able to sleep…….yeah right. Anyway, the epidural hurt worse than the labor pains. It wasn’t bad at all. Just felt like doing sit-ups

Since you are scared by pain, why put yourself in a situation of immense pain ?
Childbirth can be made relatively pain free by the use of medications. It seems like the best way for you to go.
You do not get extra points for natural childbirth nor does it make you a better mother.Do what you feel comfortable doing for yourself and your baby.Make sure to discuss pain relief with your doctor well ahead of time so you both know what you want.
Congrats on the new baby!

If you are that worried about the pain, maybe you shouldn’t go natural. You can get an epidural and it won’t hurt. You may feel pressure, but you shouldn’t feel pain.
Yes, child birth hurts. It’s supposed to hurt. But the result is well worth the pain.
I have given birth 3 times- 2 live births, one still birth. Both my live births I had an epidural. Let me tell you, it’s so much better that way. I didn’t feel a thing, but the pressure of the contractions. No pain, no pressure from pushing until the head popped out. It was easy. With my first girl, I had 6 stitches I think. But after the baby is born and you are holding them, looking at them, you pretty much forget what the doctor is doing down there and don’t notice the stitches. With my second, I only had 3 stitches, and she was double the size of my first.
The human body is an amazing thing, and a woman’s body is meant to stretch and give for the birth of a child. It is painful, but the pain goes away and then you forget how bad it was. I don’t even remember the pain- how it felt- now, I remember I was in pain, but not the pain itself.

Of course natural childbirth hurts A LOT. Epidurals do not hurt at all if done properly, though you may still feel pain and discomfort from labor (it’s nothing like the full pain). If you’re worried about tearing, which I was, you can do some stretches. I don’t want to describe it here, so ask your doctor. Frankly, if you’re 7 months pregnant, there’s nothing you can do to get out of having your babe. I would never do natural childbirth after my experiences with labor … why would I when I can be an active participant with minimal pain … but it is a PERSONAL decision. Just learn about the options and do what you think protects the health of your and your baby. Give it two more months of becoming a whale, and you might welcome the discomfort to begin to reclaim your body and hold the sweet baby.
February 22nd, 2010 at 6:53 pm
Yes it hurts, but here’s the weird thing:you’ll forget all about it once your holding that baby. You can always have an epidural, if you’re in a lot of pain you’ll probably tell the anesthesiologist that you love him once it starts working
If you have the doc stretch you when you’re pushing, you won’t tear or won’t tear as bad.

I had an epidural and the only thing with it was that my legs were really sore, but that could have been because I was severely dehydrated. When the epidural kicked in I couldn’t feel anything.

Mother of three. The doctor will give you a slight incision if he feels the baby will tear your skin and he will suture it back up once the baby is born. If the pain becomes unbearable, there is the epidural which will relieve that intense pain. Always remember, the medication is available if the pain gets too much. Don’t go into this fearing this, as you do have options. All child births are different. Don’t be scared, you have options for pain relief if you need them. This is the most exciting experience anyone can experience is the birth of your child. It out ways all the pain. Enjoy your new baby and congratulations!

My neighbor downstairs just had hers on the 12th. She had NO epidural or ANY pain medication at all. She said it was painless. It all depends on how you are built and how big the baby is. My birth mom had me in 4 hours at a young age and she said it was not that bad.

YES, I delivered both of my children with Natural Childbirth — but I can assure you that I Asked for (and got!) the Epidural — which helps tremendously with the final stages of labor.
As far as the stretching for the head to be delivered — the OB does watch the delivery closely — and if you are too tight — there is an incision made to help you have the space to deliver comfortably — and because if you do tear during childbirth — the chances of your healing correctly after the birth are much, much less.
So although I was in labor for between 13 and 19 hours of time, I can say that I was able to deal with the issues of the pain and contractions — mainly because I took my Lamaze Classes (Childbirth classes) and was well informed by all who taught the classes what the stages of labor were, they checked me constantly (especially when the head was starting to drop and My cervix was opening), and that also is quite a comfort.
The only thing I can complain about — was that when I went into the delivery room, they had me leave my glasses behind … and when they held up the child and said “Look at your beautiful baby” — I couldn’t even focus on the baby — or see the sex — mainly because I am THAT nearsighted!

most people are scared but if u are that scared then you should do a c section.
February 22nd, 2010 at 10:06 pm
I can tell you I was scared too. I ended up having to have a c-section with my son( he was breached) I was glad, I did not have to go though 20 hours or more pain. My sister had 2 natural and my sister in law had two with a c-section. My sisters 1 child I went in with her and she held my hand, I could not feel my fingers for days. I do not want you to be scared it is natural and I can tell you know matter what pain you receive when you hear your baby cry for the first time nothing else matters
Congrats on the little one Mommy to be.

very much so I had my youngest with no meds and planning on do it again with my unborn.
February 22nd, 2010 at 10:43 pm
Well, I’m not going to lie..it hurts like hell. As far as the tearing..if they need to cut you then let them because it’s better then tearing. You may get lucky and not tear or have to be cut at all. I know I had a very small tear right on the inside of the vagina that required like 3 stitches but that wasn’t bad. I didn’t even know it till the dr told me. At that point I was too busy concentrating on the baby and didn’t even feel them putting in the stitches. I would definatly prefer natural child birth vs c-section.
It does hurt but once the baby comes out you completely forget all about the pain you just experianced. It stops and the contractions become extremely mild (just so the afterbirth can be delivered). You’re a little sore after that but I didn’t think it was too bad. In my opinion it was totally worth it! I’m pregnant with my second and not looking forward to the pain but I know once the baby comes out and I can hold her that it won’t even matter.
I know you’re nervous and want to feel better about what’s to come but try not to stress out about it. Like I said I won’t lie it does hurt but once it’s over it’s not too long before you forget about what it feels like. If you really want pain meds while in labor then get them. Don’t hesitate to ask. It will make it the experiance better for you and will def. make you more comfortable.
Best of luck!!

Of course it is painful and it is fine to be scarred. I have had 3 babies. They first 2 in did all natural….with nothing at all because I was scarred to get pain meds or the Epidural.
With my 3 child I went in and was planning on doing it natural but for some reason the pain was too intense for me to work through, so I got the Epidural. And I loved it.
Just keep in mind that when you get in there if you can’t handle the pain it is OK to ask for help….there is nothing wrong with that. At the hospital I delivered in you had to wait till you were 4 cm before you could even get the Epidural……so you can have a chance to experience both if you wanted to.
And they have new things to help so women don’t rip ( but I forgot what it was called) but I am sure you will be fine.
Good luck and best wishes.

I went natural with my first and had an epidural with my 2nd and 3rd. It hurt but try not to be scared. You can always get an epidural if you want. If I had to do it over again I would have had one with my first.
