I had my second child at home and if I was going to do it again, I certainly would! THE best way to have a child! YOUR home, YOUR choices.

My second child will be having her first child in about two months. She is planning a home water birth. The mid-wife she is using charges $2,800. ($2,400 if you pay in full by the 28th week) I didn't have meds with my hospital birth and didn't have any at home, either. I don't believe in it...if I'M "high", my baby is high...don't want that.

I had a midwive but I am not sure how much it was for just her. I had pain meds too but I can't stand pain. Water births look relaxing. But none of it really mattered in the end - due to my midwives strong opinion on natural childbirth she let me lay in labor too long and my daughter got stuck in my birth canal. I had to have an emergency C Section and the doctor had a hard time delivering my baby who had to stay in NICU for 2 weeks. Just be careful - I can't imagine how a midwife would put someone's life in danger jsut because of her belief system.

hey i had a natural birth but sleeped through my labour. the first bit of my labour was very painful but i had no pain killers. midwives area good option as they do help alot. i had a bath half way through my labour it did help releif a lil bit of pain but in the end i just choose to have my baby normally with out drugs, i must admit giving birth does hurt. but after it u basically forget the pain because u have sumthing special now. (your child) it makes it all worth it.

I hurts more than I could describe here. Get an epidural and enjoy your child's birth. People take pills for headaches -- you have nothing to prove by putting yourself through childbirth pain.

Well I dont know about midwives and water births , but I do know that natural child birth does hurt pretty bad. But I have done it with all 3 of my kids and I am pregnant with my 4th and will do it again. I cant see getting an epidural. Yuck. I want to just have the baby , get it out and be able to move around and not get the risk of headaches and backache afterwards. My friend had an epidural after 2 natural child births and she said she would never do it again. She still has headaches from it. Natural Child birth is nothing you cant handle.

I loved my mid-wife. I had a certified nurse-midwife and paid just like I would have with an OB-insurance covered it. Childbirth hurts...it's all part of it! But now I just remember it was painful, but not how it felt. Once your child is born, you just don't care! I've never had a water birth, so I can't answer that. Read some books on natural birth and pain managment techniques to decide if it's for you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edited to answer the 2nd part of your question:
Some people have back labor (usually if the baby is facing toward the mother's front instead of back, although my baby was and I did not). The pain, for me was in the abdomen. It's like really intense cramps that just last and hold awhile.

Midwives in New England usually cost about $2000 from the first appointment through the birth, plus extra for blood and labwork, and extra if you want to rent a waterbirth tub.
