@EiriYukiLover1200 If the baby’s head is too big then an episiotomy will do no good. The baby’s head is only ‘too big’ if it can’t fit through the opening in the pelvis. This is quite rare and would mean a c-section to get baby out. If the baby’s head can get through the pelvis it can get through the vagina. So unless baby needs forceps to get it out there’s no need for an episiotomy. Babies who get stuck in the birth canal usually do so because of the shoulders not the head.

@consolate1 this is all of the video. some women don’t want the world to see how much pain they were in prior to crowning (or the publisher didn’t have permission to post the entire birth)–one or the other. you might be able to find the full birth on the website Rosen gave–go have a look

@lanlooon no – I had a 9lb 8oz baby and did not have an episiotomy. In the UK episiotomies are ONLY done if they need to do a forceps delivery. It’s actually quite rare here to do them. In the States though it seems to be much more a routine thing though, that they do it even though it’s not necessary. I can only say I’m so damn happy I don’t have to birth in the US.

what was the white ones on the baby’s head?
October 13th, 2010 at 1:59 pm
With ultrasounds i’m pretty sure they’d know the sex of the baby. UNLESS they said they didn’t want to know, some parents want it to be a surprise.

That thing is called a Vaccum they attatch it to the top of the babies head kinda help pull it out. Supposed to be safer then forceps but stil carry some risks

are hospital births really that bad?
October 13th, 2010 at 4:27 pm
it’s a tool that helps the doctor to deliver the baby. not necessary in all cases, but if the mom is tired or the labor’s gone on for too long that or the forceps can be used. it doesn’t harm the baby.
