Pregnant with twins and choosing to give natural birth?

By pregnantnews

I’m 36, going on 37 weeks pregnant with mt twin daughters. I’m planning on giving natural birth, since its something i’ve always wanted to do, but now, I’m becoming a little scared, and thinking about having a c-section or getting an epidural. Any childbirth tips? especially with multiples.

I know that having a natural birth is very important to some people, but I think that for your benefit, and the babys’, it might be better for you to have a c-section. SO often people will start naturally with twins (after getting an epidural) and then have to go for an emergency c-section, where they administer a local anesthetic..and you have to think about the amount of drugs that will be pumped into your system if you do that. You will probably sleep for a long time, & won’t get to see your babies right away. You would be better off to just go for the c-section, where you won’t be on as much drugs, and you’ll get to see your babies as soon as they come out!! :)

Well you left out a bunch of information. Why have you a change of heart? If you go on youtube and search twin natural births, and natural births of multiples, you will probably see a lot of positive videos. If it is not needed, why would you want them to cut you open? I understand the epidural but if you wanted a natural birth to begin with, why the change of heart? Usually in twin births, the first baby is the hardest and the second baby tends to come out easier. Reconsider. Personally, I want twins and I also want a natural birth. The only thing that may change my mind is medical reasons.

I cannot comment except that Congratulations for having twin girls.

With twins the risks more then double. Share your concerns with your OB and tell them your fears. My cousin gave delivered her twins naturally. Out of 20 sets in the hospital she was the only one successful. Know the doctor will do what is best. The fear is normal. There are medications to help you with the pain. There are nurses and doulas there to help you with fears and questions. Most hospitals provide free doula services. take advantage of it. They are trained to help before and during labor right up through delivery. There are there after to help with issues with the baby and yourself and provide invaluable support.

I vote epidural I have done it both ways and the not as much pain option is much better. If you give birth naturally you will have a much faster recovery time and be more comfortable when you go home……pushing two kids out in one day YIKES!! but I would try to do that instead of a C-section

Talk with your doctor as long as you are healthy there shouldn’t be a problem, ask what procedures they would do if you or children were in trouble. More info eases tension. Congratulations! Multiples may come early so get ready now.

Try a spinal morphine instead. It takes the worst of the edge off the pain, and still allows you to walk around and feel when and how to push.

Honestly, labor and delivery isnt that bad, the second baby is almost painless as the first sort of paves the way.

I labored 43 1/2 hours had every pain med by 37 hours, and a spinal that wore off during the 6 1/2 hours of pushing. So i was natural by the time I gave birth. The pain really truly and honestly isnt that bad at all. Its not a walk in the park, but once you’ve been in labor delivering is what you WANT to do, pain or not.

If you can avoid a section you should, its just safer and healthier for all three of you if you can avoid it. Fear is what makes the pain bad, so if you can come to terms with the natural nature of our ability to give birth, and have confidence in your body’s ability to deal with it, you’ll have an easier time. If not, let them know you want something.

But all in all, its NOT that bad.

My honest opinion? Attempt for the natural childbirth. There’s always the possibility that you will need a c-section anyway for various reasons. They have drugs you can take aside from epidurals that helps with the pain a little.

If you haven’t taken lamaze classes, don’t worry. My one simple tip is not to tense up (don’t fight it) when you have a contraction- it actually hurts more! Let your body relax, and breathe in deep and out slowly. Yes baby a will hurt coming out (all kids hurt coming out the natural way) but baby b will be a breeze, as his/her big brother/sister has already paved the way.

I would do what the doctor’s recommend. If it’s a c section for the health and safety of my babies and myself…that’s what I would b getting.

Take Lamaze classes. Incredible experience you’ll use the rest of your life.

i think thats awesome….if i was in your situation i would try the same thing, for me its just a natural “pull” to want to try this…..i mean keep in mind that IF things change there will be doctors and staff there to do what needs to be done, that being c section or whatever. Also dont make yourself feel bad if you do need pain relief, labor is hard work but every pain you have is useful~it brings your babies closer to birth. All in all i am sure you just want a safe delivery and healthy babies, the best thing you can possibly di is trust in your body and what it can do but also realize that if things dont go exactly as planned you still will have done a great job in bringing your babies into the world:-) GOD BLESS honey and it is completly normal to feel this way!

twin boys on the way

im 25 wks with twin boys and i wanted to go all natural too, but my ob wants me to have an epidural just in case i have to have an emergency c/section. she told me that as long as baby a is head down, i should be able to have them vaginally, but it all depends up on right at that moment, what kind of delivery i will have. multiples, their are more risk, so i am going to do whatever my ob wants so that my boys will arrive safe. good luck and congrats.

from what I’ve heard with twin births… that as long as the first baby is head down, even if the second is breech there shouldn’t be too many problems…
as long as your dr is on board with you, the dr will let you know if a c-section is necessary

as in nature birth with an epideral… tryto wait as long as possible and walk around… once you get the epideral you will haveto stay in bed…. which may complicate labor as gravity is no longer helping to push the babies out….. once you get the epideral try to stay sitting up,
if you are laying totally flat labor may not progress and you may end up needing c-section

Good luck to you. Search and find a doctor that is in favor of a natural birth with twins. You may have to drive an hour or more. I know there are none around here where I live.

I have 7-week-old twin girls that were born vaginally. There were born at 39 weeks 5 days and I was induced. My hospital makes you delivery in the OR if you are having twins because of the increased risk of having an emergency c-section. I decided to have an epidural in case I needed an emergency c-section because I didn’t want to wait for pain medication if they needed to get one or both babies out quickly. I don’t think I would have been able to make it through labor and delivery without the pain relief because it was very exhausting pushing both babies out! I would say don’t have a c-section unless you have to. Recovery from a vaginal birth is so much easier on your body.
