when they check your cervix at around 38weeks they can tell you whether or not you have a small pelvis

The chances that your pelvis is too small to have a vaginal birth is very unlikely!.
My great grandmother was 4ft 9 and very petite had 17 children!! all were born naturally and all were healthy!.
Genetics from the father determine how big your baby will grow but your hormones in your body are specially equipped to stop it from ‘overgrowing’.
You’ll be fine, if there was a problem the doctor would have mentioned it by now, as you are considered full term in 3 weeks time.

Hahaha. Your body size has nothing to do with your pelvis size. The doctors flat out told me I was entirely too tight and that my pelvis was too small. And I’m technically “obese”! lol So, it just depends on how things work then. I don’t think they can tell if your pelvis is going to be too small until it’s actually time to deliver.

The real answer is that they don’t really know. They will tell you when they check your cervix or when you have an ultrasound that your pelvis is “adequate” or “inadequate”, but the reality is that they have no idea how much movement your bones will have on delivery. Women who have been told that their pelvises are adequate find they can’t get the baby through. Women who have been told they won’t be able to often have no problem.
Frankly, being a small person doesn’t really matter. Some of the most successful births have been to smaller women. No worries.

My pelvis was too small to deliver my babies. I’m not a petite person though. Same story with my mom too, only she is the petite one!

doesn’t have as much to do with being too small or not as it is pelvic dystocia (i think thats what its called)…..unless the dr /midwife has given you a reason you should not deliver vaginally you are fine, good luck!!

Your size has nothing to do with whether or not you can give birth naturally or not, for example my sister is overweight and can’t give birth naturally because her pelvis is small and off-center.

No doc or midwife can tell with any amount of certainty whether or not the babe will fit or if you have a small pelvis. They cannot take into account how much you will stretch and how loose your ligaments will get. Your body was made to do this if you are really worried about it ask to use a squat bar and use gravity to help you get the baby out. It is much harder to deliver on your back. When you are on your back you basically have to push the baby up a hill to get the wee one out, much much harder than letting gravity help you instead of fighting against it. Good luck and happy birthing!

hello hun
well i,m 4foot 7 inches tall and i have had one natural childbirth so far, still waiting on this lil man i,m 36 weeks today my hubby kept thinking if i had my last son naturally that my pelvis bone would break cause i,m so small. But honestly your pelvis bone makes no difference “unless” your about 3feet tall then they would most likely opt for a c-section!

My mum’s pelvis is technically big enough, but it’s heart shaped, so there wasn’t anywhere for my brother and I to go. Thus, there was no natural births for us.
If you are worried about something, ask them. It’s the best way to go about it.
