its hard to explain the pain, but all i can suggest is dont be hell bent on not having meds, i was dead against having an epidural and i prolly would have been able to do it i was just on gas. but it was just the labour was sooooo long and i had had no sleep for about 36 hours they said it was prolly best to have the epidural so i could relax and sleep, my daughter was born 6 hours after that. dont feel like you have failed because you dont end up going all natural sometimes its just not possible. try to keep an open mind.

I have had 2 natural childbirths and yes they hurt. The first one I couldn’t feel the contractions and had to have the nurses tell me when to push and the part that hurt was when his huge head was trying to come out. With the second one the contractions were incredibly painful but all was fine with the head coming out. So see it can be different each time you have a child and you never know how it will feel. I say go into it hoping for natural and then if you need the meds then take them cause that’s what they are there for!
It hurts but it’s all worth it in the end to have your precious little baby!

Yes and no! Does that help! Both of mine were natural, and believe me both were very different in pain. My first, while not a walk in the park, didn’t hurt nearly as bad as the second. I walked, I used the ball, I rocked, changed position, used the Jacuzzi, and let me tell you…If I could have gotten an epidural for my second I would have. I progressed so fast during the second, by the time I asked for drugs and the Dr ordered them, I was already pushing. Every pregnancy is different, as is every woman, and every baby. My advice is to read as much as you can (labor stories), look at the different methods of reducing pain (breathing, focus point, even drugs) and decide what you want. Keep an open mind, make sure you talk about it with your OB before you are in labor, and try and relax. When you think you can’t handle anymore, try and push on, if not get the epidural. Don’t let anyone tell you that your experience isn’t natural or real because you chose to get help with the pain. You are the one who knows what amount of pain is too much. Good Luck and congrats on your forth coming blessing! And by the way, it’s all worth it and you really do forget about the pain once that precious bundle is in your arms.

i gave birth to my little girl on tuesday and yes she is right pushing feels more like a relief not so much pain and yes the contractions are what hurt the worst but you can do it chica think of how many women before us did it without medication

Really!! who on earth told you that?? “”childbirth is painful”" but its a pain we all get over!! it dissappears as soon as the babys born, and most of us go on having more children…ive had 3 natural childbirths best of luck hun!!!!!!

Everyone handles pain differently and everyone has a different level of pain tolerance, the only way you will know is if you do it.

I have had three children.

My first I labored naturally (no pain meds) until I needed an emergency cesarean.

My second was a successful VBAC, without pain medication.

My third was another attemped VBAC, which failed (I had an emergency cesarean).

Until I had the general anesthesia for my first cesarean and the spinal for my second cesarean, I never used pain medication. There was pain involved, of course, but it was managable. The key is to educate yourself, educate yourself, educate yourself! Know the process of labor and various positions, etc. that may help alleviate pain. Also, speak for yourself-unless the baby is in danger, there is no need for you to lay on your back if you think you would be more comfortable on your side, etc.

EDITED TO ADD: I agree. Pushing was almost like a relief. The contractions were what were painful.

yup its true, i pushed with no pain relief at all… yeh it hurts but its not unbearable.. i actually have a very low pain tolerance but it was OK… i found the contractions the hardest part and even then i kept thinking i was only at stage one.. they didnt get anything like i was expecting.. like when you see those women on tv screaming their heads off haha!!
