What are some medical pain relief options besides and epidural? I don’t want to have a natural child birth?

By pregnantnews

either. What are some other pain management (medication or medical treatments) for pain during labor? I don’t want an epidural or any spinal things or a natural childbirth.

My friend had a baby last November and didn’t want an epidural or drug-free birth. They gave her stadol (spelling??) just to take the edge off while she was dilating and also while she was pushing.

The only thing you could get is something like demerol or nubane. It’s not effective at all really. Your best bet if you don’t want a natural birth is an epidural. It’s relatively painless, and helps a ton! I now see why women are so about epidurals,I loved mine,it helped a ton! I said I wasn’t having one either,I was going without drugs. My husband asked me to get one so we could sleep before I had him. The demerol or nubane WILL get to the baby, and effect them. The epidural will not.Teach yourself breathing as well,as well as pain management techniques. I did not want an epidura.bc id had a bad experience with one,and my husband talked me into one so we could both get rest lol

My mom told me once I take Lamaze classes I will know all there is to about pain relief and not be worrying about the pain anymore.

If you’re in the U.S. IV narcotics (different hospitals use different ones) would be about your only option. And they can’t be given close to delivery, (they’ll make baby sleepy/sedated at birth) so they aren’t really a very GOOD option.

I ve had an epidural 3 times, with each delivery. the first time they also gave me stadol due to the pain of contractions. I was loopy as fruit loops and had a much harder time pushing. I m not sure what drugs they will give you that will help with the pain like an epi. I just know from my experience that those drugs are more likely to make you not quite so alert while in active labor.

you can do hypnosis, iv drugs or learn some breathing techniques. there aren’t really that many options. i know when i went in, i got nubane (sp) and it was awesome for me. i was pretty loopy and felt everything but did not freak out about it. they might be able to numb your perineum when you push to take some of the sting out.

I had an epidural (2 actually) with my first son and i hated every minute of getting them, but loved having them for the most part.

Stadol (sp?) is apparently very funny for those around you (my best friend had this and acted like a loon), but I know that my dr. won’t give you stadol when you are going to be pushing soon because you actually need your whits about you to push a baby out.

ask your dr. what can be done…you may have to resort to methods that are not medicine at all, but breathing tecniques etc…AKA natural labor.
