What music did you listen to while in labor?
By pregnantnewsI’m wanting to put together a playlist, and burn a CD specifically for while I’m in labor and giving birth. I’m looking for suggestions, to see what others have used to help them remain focused and in control. I am having a natural childbirth, and I know music is a powerful tool to help you relax, focus, and be inspired. What songs did you find most soothing, calming, and moving?

I took my Enya cd’s although there were times when I just preferred silence. Dim lights were the most soothing thing for me.

With my oldest we had Miles Davis and Jimmy Buffet going. And with my youngest we played on Gary Jules song. When the contractions started getting tough I didn’t want the music on. It was too much a distraction.
By the end of the Gary Jules song I was yelling at my husband to turn off the effing music.
So in the end the music ended up ticking me off and I don’t think it was the music choice.

Back labor is caused when the baby lies posteriorly – or “sunny-side-up”, and the pain is from the baby’s spine pressing on your spine as well as nerves along your back.
The baby can turn over at any time prior to labor – or during labor.
Some women just naturally feel their labor pains in their lower back even if the baby is not posterior – I know I did!
Try reading this:
“When your baby is in a posterior position, you can try to stop him/her from descending lower. You want to avoid the baby engaging in the pelvis in this position, while you work on encouraging him to turn around. Jean Sutton says that most babies take a couple of days to turn around when the mother is working hard on positioning.
Avoid deep squatting
Use the ‘knee to chest’ position. When on hands and knees, stick your bottom (butt) in the air, to tip the baby back up out of your pelvis so that there is more room for him to turn around.
Sway your hips while on hands and knees
Crawl around on hands and knees. A token 5 minutes on hands and knees is unlikely to do the trick – you need to keep working at this until your baby turns. Try crawling around the carpet for half an hour – while watching TV or listening to music. It is good exercise as well as good for the baby’s position!
Don’t put your feet up! Lying back with your feet up encourages posterior presentation.
Swim belly-down, but avoid kicking with breaststroke legs as this movement is said to encourage the baby to descend in the pelvis [3]. You can still swim breaststroke, but simply kick with straight legs instead of “frogs’ legs”.

It depends on your music preferences and what you like listening to when your feeling stressed out, LOL, for my first born son, my cousin blasted “Aventura” while she drove me (an hour and a half) to the hospital…I didn’t understand the language but it distracted me and helped with the contractions but during the actual hard labor I seriously did not want any music, LOL…then with my 2nd my daughter, I was in serious labor pains and my mom drove me to the hospital (45 minutes away) and she turned up a country music station…I’m not a big fan-I only like a few artists but man did it help!! It distracted me and soothed me, made me feel very calm and in control, even though the pain was excruciating, LOL!! But again like before I didn’t want any music during the “hard labor”…it’s annoying to me for some reason…but I did enjoy watching TV (a special on Britney Spears) while I was in labor, also strange because I’m not a big fan of hers either. It’s hard to say what will work for you, I’d say to go with something you listen to when your feeling stressed out or something.

Our childbirth instructor said a lot of women respond well to the sound of the ocean…so I bought some nature cd’s of the ocean, as well as a “sleep” cd with peaceful music as well as ocean sounds…I’m soon to be in labor, but so far the sleep cd is amazing for my insomnia!

Honey music was the last thing on my mind. And once those pains start kicking in it’s going to be the last thing on your mind too. All you are going to want is for the baby to be born and the pain to be over…..
