Your experience with natural childbirth?
ByI am 29 and pregnant for the first time. I have researched different delivery methods, and I am leaning toward natural childbirth. Thing is, I am terrified. None of my friends have had a natural birth. Almost all of them have had pitocin and an epidural. Also, almost half of them have had c-sections, which I would like to avoid.
Can anyone share their experience with natural childbirth? I want to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly so I can make an informed decision. THANKS!!!

Well I am in the same boat, I’ve never had a baby so I won’t be a lot of help but I do know people that did it naturally. I do recommend NOT getting induced. Everyone I know that was induced had a horrible experiece, the body isn’t ready and you are forcing it to do something that it’s not ready to do yet. A good friend of mine went into labor naturally and she said it was like her body took over, everything went smooth the pain wasn’t unbearable just hard and she did great. I have another friend that did it and said the pain was miserable but she was glad she toughed it out and iddn’t have an epidural. So…I’m going to try my hardest to do it naturally but if it gets bad I”ll resort to the epidural. I do recommend having the episiotomy, it’s a lot better than tearing. Good luck I hope I helped at least some.

I personally am going to have an epidural. But my Mother in law had all three of her kids naturally and doesn’t regret it. She said it does hurt, but the Lamaze breathing really helped. She had some bad experiences with a nurse trying to push her second child back in (she didn’t know what to do. Obviously a terrible hospital.) but nothing went wrong during the birthing experience. If the idea really scares you, you can always try to go as far as you can stand with out an epidural and then get one when you need it. But I admire anyone who wants to give birth naturally. Don’t pay any mind to people who criticize about it.

I am currently pregnant with my second child, and am also planning on having a natural childbirth (at home to be exact). I have never personally experienced a natural home birth, but I have many friends as well as my own mother who have. I am the middle of NINE children, and my mom had 3 of us at home. She had all nine of us naturally, but only 3 at home. She told me that laboring is the worst part… When it’s time to push, that’s the most relieving. I had a friend who had a baby at home recently. She went into labor, and was feeling pains for only a couple hours. By the time the midwife came, she was already 7cm dilated. She labored in the tub, then opted to have the baby on the bed out of the tub. She told me that the most supernatural part of it all is that her husband was able to lay in bed with her when she wanted, and right after her little one was born, her hubby just crawled in bed with her, and they were left alone to their little family! With my first, I was induced with pitocin, and had an epidural. When I talked with my midwife this time (since planning a home birth), she gave me a list of pros and cons: both baby and I developed slight infections upon his birth in the hospital, but the midwife informed me that it was likely due to the fact that I was checked approximately 18-20 times while in the hospital (The more people are sticking things inside of you, the more prone you are to developing an infection, as well as the baby). Midwives are very non invasive. They will only check you if YOU ask, or if absolutely necessary. They are also very private, so if you deliver at home, they will be there as much or as little as you so desire. I have also heard that water births are great, as they ease a lot of pressure and pain during labor. If you plan on a home birth as I am, keep in mind that it is definitely more “sterile” at your own home. You and your little one are already immune to your own germs, and no matter how “sterile” the hospital room is, you can’t ignore the fact that there are sick and dying people in that same hospital as well. Now, since I had my first in the hospital with pitocin and an epidural and had a wonderful experience, I will tell you that any way you go will be just fine. But, don’t be afraid to do it naturally. Our bodies are only doing what God intended for them to do! Good luck! God bless you and your little one, and whatever decision you make! Either way, you’ll have a little one soon!

I had gas and air and pethidine with my son and although it helped with the pain i was quite out of it and couldn’t concentrate properly so when i went into labour with my daughter i only wanted a bit of gas and air and it made the birth experience so much more enjoyable(yes it was enjoyable) of course it was still painful but i stayed mobile and was fully aware of what was going on and as a result it was alot quicker and easier birth and she was 9lb 1oz.
