question about the reality of labor/delivery?

By pregnantnews

this is my first pregnancy, im 18 (not sure if that matters for this purpose) and i was planning on an all natural birth: no epidurel, etc and want to deliver vaginally. im actually looking into the Bradley method. i just wanted to know if you think that it is really possible to have an all natural birth with my first child?

Many, many women have done it. When I was able to make a choice about it (my first was an emergency C-section so they knocked me out cold) I opted to have an epidural. OMG I could have had a party in the delivery room once that kicked in. I realize that’s not an option that everyone would choose though.

I do know it’s possible for an 18 y.o. to have a baby naturally though, because both of my exes sisters had babies when they were 18 and 19 and never took any pain meds. They survived! :)

Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy. :)

I think the answer is to have an open mind. Keep your options open, but learn as much as you can about giving birth. The less tense and stressed out you are, the better. I had two babies without painkillers, and two with.
It isn’t a failure if you do decide to have pain relief – it’s all about the safe delivery of your baby. I’m afraid I see no virtue in pain, but then I do know people who have managed well without pain relief.

Anything is possible, where there is a will there is a way. I went to 9cm with my baby no pain medication because I was stubborn but I ended up with a c-section because I wouldn’t progress no more. You can do it if you set your mind to it but its pretty intense and can get rough and if it does don’t be afraid to ask for pain medicines thats what there for.

of course you can have a natural birth with your first child, but no labour is the same, it just depends on your little bundle of joy and whether they want to make it easy for you or not.. its hard work but soooo worth it. you will decide at the time if you want to have pain relief or not and its your decision dont let anyone influence you, you have carried this for 9 long hard months.. good luck honey hope all goes well for you. xx

Oh dear, yes! Millions of women have all their babies naturally. Just think, over the centuries, and even now, the women who have no choice in the matter. Your doctor or midwife is the best one to ask questions of. Of course there can be occassional problems that come up in pregnancies, so I’m not saying everyone can have a natural birth every time successfully, but more often than not it’s possible.

You go girl! Best of success to you and your new little one.

Yes, women have done it for years. Unless a problem comes up and the doc feels he needs to do a c section. It does hurt like no other, but seriously, once the baby is delivered, the pain is automatically gone. For a bit, then your very sore for awhile. It is all worth it once you have that little baby in your arms. And you think, “Did I really make this beautiful little thing?” The only thing I can tell you that I think will help, is that it feels like your pooping a huge dry terd. I know that sounds very gross, but it is so true. I’ve heard many other women describe it that way also. So, if you can just try “pushing” that out as fast as you can, it will go much faster. Or at least it did for me. As hard as I could, cause I needed that pain over. Good luck to you and Happy Mothering! Congratulations!

I think you should give it a go if that is what you want to do. You are always free to change your mind during labour if you want pain relief. Although I was 29 with my first, I had no pain relief but would have if there was time to do so. My sister in law had her first baby at age 18 (11 pounds) without pain relief and everything was okay for her. Good luck.
