Taking Bradley Method Birthing Class. Others prior experience?

By pregnantnews

My doctor recommended that I look into the Bradley Method for birthing rather than Lamaze(spelling?). I am not the type that can pretend I am not in pain and ignore it lol. My husband and I signed up for a Bradley 12 week course starting June 2nd and I was curious if any other mothers out there have used this method and how they liked it? I want to try without drugs, but if the pain gets to much for me I may want an epi.

Did you end up getting an epi? or stick to natural child birth?

I used the Bradley method with all four of my kids. It works great. They teach total relaxation. This prevents the fear-tension-pain syndrome which causes uterine cramps. I hope you can use the Bradley method totally, which means that you will probably not need any stitches after wards and you will be allowed to eat during labor. Most people with Bradley method also do not use the electronic fetal monitor.
My contractions were a moderate pain; like 5 1/2 on a scale of 1-10. It was a dull ache similar to the type of pain you get when you hold your mouth open wide for a long time. It felt totally different from menstrual cramps. In fact, I have had menstrual cramps before that are worse than labor. Over 90% of those who use the Bradley method do not need pain medication and the c-sec rate is very low.
