What types of natural child birth do they have?
ByI’m trying to find ways other than lamaze and bradley method to help deal with natural birth. For me lamaze just didn’t work. I didn’t find the breathing helped. Though it was very informative, and did help me know a little more about what it meant to dialate, what to expect and what would happen, it did little to help me to get through the contractions. Though I did get through my first, I want to try to find better ways to manage. Anyone who has experienced natural birth, can you tell me what helped you get through it. I have a supportive husband and family, but they can only help so much. I’ve tried searching for it on search engines, but all I can find is Bradley and Lamaze methods, and can’t find any other types. I know there are many others out there, but am not familiar with any other types. Thank you for anyone who can help.
Sorry for posting twice, but I meant to put this question in pregnancy section, not the womens section.

What about a water birth, that is still considered natural??
Good luck to you and happy birthing

Did you read the bradley book? It’s not like Lamaze at all really..I tried lamaze and it failed! Bradley, and two home births, but four no pain med births…Bradley is the true king!

I took a bradley class and I feel like I am prepared to have a natural birth. The lady who teaches it has been teaching 12 week classes consistanly through the year for about 2 years with about 5-6 couples in each class. She said that she has about a 85-90% success rate of couples actually giving birth naturally after her class. One of the couples from the class that I took with her had their baby the third week in June and they were sucessfull. To increase your chances though I would suggest going to a natural birth class (bradley if you choose or another if you get any suggestions) and hire a doula. A doula is specially trained to help you make it through your birth experience as you plan, natural in your case. They are very effective in my area.

I’d do more reading on Lamaze and Bradley, but do also consider water birth and hypno-birthing options. Also, be sure to get a Doula to help you through the process. It’s her job to look after you (not take photos, find food, answer the cellphone) and she will know all the procedures at your hospital and negotiate on your behalf with nurses etc. Worth every penny!

You should look into hypnobirthing. I don’t know much about it, so it would be better to just do some research. You don’t actually become hypnotized with this method, but it does teach you how to calm yourself naturally. If you are calm and relaxed at birth, things progress much more quickly and with less pain.

i didn’t have any classes and have had 2 natural births. first with pethadine second with nothing. just did what my body told me. i dont think any amount of classes can really prepare you for childbirth.

Yep i reccomend the hypnobirthing….i don’t really like the idea of having a method i think just having lots of research helps a lot. Buy “Ina Mays Guide To Childbirth” book, it’s fantastic i wish i had of read it before my 2 births even tho they where great and drug-free.
E-mail me if you wanted to chat or ask any questions =)

I have given birth naturally 4 times. I never took a class. I just used my experiences from the times before. My husband was a great help. Very supportive. I just always stayed focused. I tried the breathing, but usually that goes all out the window for me. (when you are pushing out a 9lb 4oz baby without pain relief the last thing you are thinking about is breathing right…lol) If you have a midwife..I have heard that a Douala is a waste of money. In our town the midwife normally delivers all the babies, and I have several friends and family members that had her. 3 of them had Douala’s and all said it was a huge waste of money. They said if they had Dr delivering, then maybe the Douala would have been of help, but the midwife was more of a comfort than the Douala. But I am sure everyone has their own feeling about that. There is water birthing and all of that but honestly, I just prefer to go in there and do my thing and get it over with. I think every woman is different when it comes to child birth. Everyone handles it differently. My labors
were always very fast so I honestly don’t think any of the natural birthing “helpers” would have benefited me anyway. Here all a couple of websites I looked at while I was pregnant.

There is hypnobirthing and something called birthing from within. Why don’t you want to use the Bradley method? I used it four times and it works great. Look for the book, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way.

I have never took any classes for my 4 natural births, all my babies have been over 8 and a half pounds and I am now in training to be a birth Doula because I really believe in natural childbirth.
What helped me the most was, taking it second by second, NOT focusing on breathing, in fact trying to laugh and make jokes helped alot when I saw the people around me laugh it made me feel better, water is also very therapeutic, I have not had a water birth but I have heard amazing things about the pain being eased by the water. Hope this helps, best of luck to you:)

Hey, I had a natural birth with my lil girl in Feb. I didn’t use any methods such as Lamaze etc (she came early before my antenatal classes had started so I didn’t even know about these!). What I did to cope was just walk around the room, and when a contraction came I would stop and lean on the wall and just concentrate on thinking about how much closer I was getting to meeting my daughter. Another thing I did was use the hospital’s “Swiss Ball” to sit on and rock during contractions, while I was looking out the window watching the heavy rain – very relaxing!
I tried getting in the bath but wasn’t very comfortable – I found walking worked better for me.
