Do you think a water birth would be a good idea for 1st time labour?

By pregnantnews

I’m just 25 weeks but i’m thinking of a water birth as i’ve heard they are really relaxing and was amuch calmer experience. But i don’t know if they usually reccomend them for 1st time mums, the only people that i know who have had them were onto their 2nd 3rd births. I will ask my gp tomorow but wanted to know what any of you ladies thought …

thanks

My sister had a water birth for her 1st labour and really liked it.

I had a part water birth with my 1st labour, but unfortunately i had a very long labour of 4 days and i couldn’t stand the water After a while so pushed my daughter out elsewhere.

If your in the UK then yes of course you can have a water birth, there may not be a pool available though when you go into labour, but you can always put it on your birth plan.

Well providing you don’t end up with complications towards the end of your pregnancy i think you most likely could wishing you all the best.
Hope this Helps Rach.
P.S it usually depends from where you are maybe think about getting in touch with and birth coach to ask these questions.
Google water births and country/city your from.

I had one with my second only because it wasn’t available in the hospital I gave birth to my first at. It was amazing! It is recommended for anyone who wants to use “alternate” pain relieving techniques. (other than medications) The water is really relaxing and it also helps stretch your perineum so your chances of an episiotomy or tear are less. Its also supposed to be good for the baby, being born into a more calm and relaxing environment. As long as you are not high risk and everything is OK with you, your baby and your pregnancy, you should be a perfect candidate for a water birth.

Google it, there are tons of videos and information that really helps with your preparation for a water birth.

I had a water birth last May. It was amazing! It helped immensely in making the contractions less intense, and I didn’t even feel my son crowning. His head was there, then it was out. This was baby #5 for me, but I think it’s perfectly fine for a first time mother. As long as your labor is progressing normally, and you don’t end up having to push for an extended period of time, there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to have a water birth. I can’t recommend it highly enough! Best of luck to you.
