Home birth, water birth or hospital birth? What are your birth stories?

By pregnantnews

We’re due on 25th September 2010, my husband and I are ecstatic but also nervous.

Can you please share your birth stories and, maybe, just give some general advice?

We’d both like to hear your stories.

Also, could you answer this question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtKlATIfM3yX1RWewsB3RjXsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100330123430AAveZi7 ?

Well, I went into labor on a Friday, and the next day (Saturday) my daughter was born.

My husband left for work on that Friday night, an hour later, I called his work and told him to come home and to take me to the hospital, and he worked an hour away♥

So, he came home, picked me up and took me to the hospital, I was having back pains less than five minutes apart, and when we got to the hospital, they examined me and I was not even dialated at all, and then they put a fetal monitor on me, and then they decided to keep me in and the doctor said I would be having my daughter sometime the next day.

Well, I had to go to the bathroom, loose bowels, and then I got sick, and every hour for 12 hours, I was dialating 1cm an hour, and I was up all night and nothing they gave me worked, but in the end, it was all worth it, I gave birth to a healthy, beautiful, baby girl♥

You have to work at bringing your child into the world with your husband, teamwork♥and after all is said and done, you can look at what the two of you created and what and who you both brought into the world♥

I had a hospital birth with all my children and I had a water labor with 2 (also had them un-medicated) my hospital will not allow you to deliver in the water. All of my experiences were fantastic and I was taken care of so well that I look forward to my labors beginning.

I personally would never do a home birth because there are more risks involved and IF by chance I needed something or my baby needed something and wasn’t able to get it, I don’t think I could live with myself for choosing home to be “most” comfortable (which personally I enjoyed the hospital way more, they cleaned up everything and took care of everything and I didn’t have to do anything but enjoy my baby. I will take uncomfortable before safety any day. But that is me, others have done it and had great experiences. Research your hospital, mine will let me labor how I want to they put no restrictions on me they don’t push anything on me, they don’t lie to me to get things moving faster, some are awful (I heard more of county then private).

After researching the risks and benefits, I decided on a homebirth with my last baby because it was actually safer than giving birth in the hospital since I’m low-risk. I had a relatively short labor, was in labor all day at work but didn’t really know it (the contractions were erratic and not very strong), and I ended up delivering at 10 that night. The midwife showed up just in time to catch! I was in hardly any pain until I hit transition, and at that point I would have ended up in the pool if it had been inflated and filled but it was just going too fast. Transition sucked, but it only lasted an hour and then the baby was out.

I have another homebirth planned in 5 months and I’m expecting it to go just as smoothly! Hopefully not quite as fast, though, so the midwife can show up ahead of time :)

ETA: KC, lemme guess – they had you pushing flat on your back and/or told you when to push instead of letting your body do it by itself?

Honestly the best thing I ever did to help prepare for my daughter’s birth was read the book ” Ina May’s Guide To Childbirth” Sounds a little hokey I know and some of it is, but honestly it was the best book I have ever read.

It got me excited to go into labour, I no longer feared labour but was excited for it. Also another good one is to watch the documentary by Ricki Lake, “The Business of Being Born” I watched it on my due date and was glad I was so informed and it was pretty exciting for me too.

Good Luck and congratulations.

Well I had an all-natural, drug-free birth in the hospital.
It started at 12 midnight, my contractions were about 5 minutes apart right off the bat. By 3am, we decided to head to the hospital as my contractions were 3-4 minutes apart and very consistent. When I arrived, I was already 4cm dilated. They admitted me, and I spent most of my labour in the shower with warm water spraying on my belly, which helped alot for the pain. My water broke (during a vaginal exam) around 7:30am. I started pushing at 8am and I had my daughter at 11:01am that morning (yes, 3 hours of pushing!). She was 7lbs 11oz and absolutely perfect!
If I had the option, I would have LOVED a water birth at the hospital but we don’t have a birthing tub (yet – they plan to put one in next year, AFTER I have my next and last baby!).

I am not brave enough to have a home birth. While my one friend swears up and down that her home birth was the best decision ever, I am just too scared of something going wrong. My labour/delivery was relatively simple and straight forward, but when it came time to push my daughter got “stuck” and, like I said, I tried to push her out for 3 hours. Eventually, they used the vacuum to pull her out. If I hadn’t been in the hospital, they wouldn’t have had access to a vacuum and who knows what COULD have happened. For me, I just feel safer being in the hospital just in CASE something goes wrong.

My advice would be to ENJOY IT and don’t rush your pregnancy! And as painful as labour can be, it’s such an amazing experience. I cannot wait to go through it again.

Good Luck & Congrats~
