I heard that it is less painful to give birth in water (water birth), is this true?

By pregnantnews

I’m 17 weeks pregnant and was just curious. Can you shed some light on this topic?

It is true because the warm water relaxes your muscles, while at the same time your in your own home at ease and at peace.

I wanted to do water birth but my OBGYN insisted that it was gross and that I not do it… UGHH

Yes it is. It’s more relaxing. I wish I could do water birth. I don’t have any hospitals nearby that offer it. The nearest one is in the next city and is about 45 minutes away.

I read in about ten different places that laboring in a warm bath can be very soothing–having a lavender scented candle lit in the room somewhere can help too. Keep the light dim, and just rest your head on a pillow. Have your boyfriend/hubby rub your shoulders and neck, and if possible, your lower back.

I don’t give birth in the water but I was labouring in the water and it helped so much!

People always tell me that it slowed down their contractions but I believe it’s what made my labour so fast. Just 41/2hours.

The warm water will help you to relax and I was so much calmer in the bath.

Story about me getting out of the bath:
When I was in the bath I needed to push so I started pushing and my mum went and got the midwife. I look back now and laugh but got angry at my partner when he kind of laughed at me trying to get out of the bath trying not pushing because I was scared my son was going to fall out and having a contraction just wasn’t a pretty sight and none the less painful haha..
It took me about 4 attempts to get out of the bath

When your in labour you will do what you think is best and what your body wants to do.

Take a look at this water birth site.

I labored in the shower, and then in the tub. I got out to push because it was easier for me, but some women actually give birth in the water. It was SOOOO relaxing and helped soothe my contractions (I had no other pain meds) I did this in the hospital, and my doctor was very accommodating.

If you cannot have a water birth, I would suggest laboring in a warm tub or shower. Just wear a tankini top–you don’t have to be naked :) You won’t regret it!!
