Is it possible to have a home water birth or water birth in a hospital in ohio?
ByMy partner and I would really like to consider these options but it doesn’t really seem possible. I prefer the home water birth but we are okay with a hospital water birth. I want it an all natural birth and I heard and have researched that water births are the way to go. This is my first child.

yes but you need to talk to yor ob.gyn and get references and papers or places to call youll have to have a midwife or doctor at your house in order to do so and I believe you have to be healthy & have no issues with the pregnancy or chances of risk.

Google midwives in your area and see who takes your insurance. You can do all your prenatal care with a midwife unless you have complications. If anything comes up they’ll send you to an OBGYN and a hospital.

You just have to find a hospital in your area that offers water birth, many have one or two rooms that are designed specifically for natural births and many have water tubs in them. Do some research online and visit all the hospitals websites in your area.
As far as home water birth, you need to find a midwife for that. Again, do some research online to find one. A doctor won’t help you deliver at home, but a midwife will, as long as you and the baby do not have any medical conditions that need to be seen by a doctor and delivered in a hospital.

We had two of our children at a birthing center that was near a hospital, but not part of it. One of our two daughters was actually born in the water. It was amazing. Most off-campus birthing centers have been destroyed by frivolous lawsuits and skyrocketing malpractice insurance prices. Our OB actually retired from private practice rather than deal with all the hassle.
That being said, search for birthing centers or midwives in your area. Make sure you are healthy and there are no complications with the pregnancy before you go this route. I hope it all goes well for you, because it was a wonderful experience for us.

some hospitals do facilitate water births but many do not – i would suggest you look into birth centers, these are more likely to have the capabilities of water birth. also suggest you read any book you can get ahold of by Ina May Gaskin or Henci Goer; also look into bradley method and hypnobabies – those two come highly recommended.
fwiw – i tried the tub (our hospital had one available for every 2 rooms) but w/o jets was not enough water movement, w/ jets was too hard (hurt!), water got cold really quickly, and i was shivering most of the time. the shower on the other hand, felt amazing and it was a removable showerhead so i was able to put the water where i needed it, stomach/back as needed.
Good Luck!

Why wouldn’t it seem possible. Depending where you live the usage for tubs for the labour can be rare or common but you just need to do your research. I would either find a birthing centre or look for a midwife. Even if you have a few problems with the pregnancy don’t just rule out a homebirth as even with a few minor things a midwife will still take you on just ask them!
