MY GUPPY WAS PREGNANT AND NOW SHE’S..SKINNIER…?!?
ByQuestion by Pretty Princess: MY GUPPY WAS PREGNANT AND NOW SHE’S..SKINNIER…?!?
ok ok before you say “she gave birth” i think something different is happening. ok so i bought her last week and she was pregnant when i got her. i also bought a non pregnant guppy that same day. anyways she was sorta big when i got her and i planned for her to give birth any time soon. and this weekend i planned for her to give birth BUT since my friend was hosting a sleepover i had to say yes because she a good friend and there’s another LONG story that goes with it lol. anyways when i left on friday morning i fed them and saw my preggers guppy acting normal and stuff she was pretty big BUT still had room in her tummy i saw the little clear stuff that indicates she could hold them in for a few more days. by clear stuff i meant “extra” room in her tummy. hard to explain.
anyways no one fed my fishes(1 male and 2 female guppies) for 2 days. but i thought that it was okay. when i came home on saturday after noon around 4:10pm i saw that my very pregnant guppy has shrunken! i was very disappointed cause i wanted to see the baby fry. anyways as i looked closer i saw that her gravid spot looked THE EXACT SAME!!! but the big bulge is gone. so i was wondering wheather she really gave birth or if she just starved,?
i dont know.
but my male keeps on following that guppy and like a few times he would get close enough to do this weird thing. like his fin would go in her or atleast very near her and she would jerk away. this happened a few times.and he keeps chasing her even though there is anothe female in the tank.
she has the TINIEST bulge ever though barely noticable. but it is there.
is she pregnant? i did a water change yesterday and couldnt find a fry anywhere! i know they will get eaten (that is my plan) but really..come on! not even ONE fry is left!!!! in the tank!
not even a fry body! so did she really give birth? i have ghost shrimp and african dwarf frogs in my 6 gallon tank! i have 3 plastic plants and 2 hiding decor items.
sooo they could have hidden but i doubt it. and when should i put her in the breeding tank? i bought one. today. i want them to get eaten but i dont want the to get sucked up the filter, so i will keep them for a few hours in the breeding tank. and then let them go. what should i give the new born fry? all i have is fish food. flakes. so should i crush them up alot and put them in the breeding tank?
when should i put her in the breeding tank? and did she give birth? if she didnt then whats happening? and what should i give the fry (they are not here yet but im going to be prepared lol) and anything else?
HELP ME THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!
ok ok stop telling me to get a different tank cause i wont. so stop.
and why is my male only bugging that female.
and im 99.9% sure she was pregnant because i bought her like that. and she has a gravid spot
so when should i put her in the breeding trap thing?

Two days is quite a long time for the other fish in your tank to have eaten the fry, especially if your tank is not planted. She could have given birth, or she could have just been bloated prior to the couple days of fasting, which helped clear out her system.
First of all, a 6g tank is way too small to even think about breeding guppies. For two females and a male, the minimum would be a 15g tank, more if you’re planning on raising the fry in the tank.
A breeding tank is not good because you have to net the pregnant female, and put her in a totally different environment that might not even be pregnant. Most guppy breeders either put the female in too early and she never gets pregnant, or too late and she ends up experiencing a miscarriage, and probably dying in the process.
If you don’t want the fry to get sucked up by the filter, put a sponge over it. Fry grow best when given lots of protein, baby brine shrimp is the best option when they’re young. If that’s not possible, then crush up the adult flakes into very fine powder and sprinkle that over the main tank at least two times a day.
I highly recommend getting a bigger tank. Your guppies might not breed due to the stress from a small environment. Guppies are active fish that need a lot of swimming space, so aggression might occur more than mating.

Most likely she was never pregnant and was just bloated with air. Or she gave birth and had babies and they Ate them. or she gave birth and they got stuck in the filter. They got sucked into it. check your filter cartridge. And your tank is too small also for the guppy. Anyway if you keep them in a 15 gallon she will probably still get pregnant. You can get a heater light and tank for like 40 dollars.
