As long as you have an excellent midwife (in the US, a CNM or CPM) that has a great care team and thinks you don’t need to be risked out, go for it!! A good midwife will know when you need to transfer care of be transferred to the hospital.

You probably can have a water-birth, as long as it’s not a high risk pregnancy! Talk to your doctor or mid-wife, and stay healthy! I’m going natural, haven’t decided if I want a water-birth yet.

I’m not sure about that but you should talk to your doctor! I think having in the hospital are safe than at home. Good luck.

Have it at home if a doctor will come, but since you are having twins, and there is risks of more complications, I would go to the hospital, just to be safe.

The safety of a vaginal delivery with twins really depends upon the presentation of the twins and the skill level of your midwife at home. I have NEVER heard of a physician being even remotely interested in tending a water birth. I’ve heard of very few hospitals who allow them, as well. From my experience, most docs will only c-section twins, but it sounds like you might be lucky with an open-minded physician.

I just had a home water birth for my 4th child with a certified nurse midwife present. I would do it for twins if both babies were presenting in labor appropriately (head down). Then again, I am less than 5 minutes from the nearest hospital. Proximity to hospital is another key issue with a home birth.

Likely, you’re physician will recommend scheduling an induction (if he tends vaginal deliveries for multiples) ahead of the due date or a scheduled cesarean section for you due to your short labor time, distance from the hospital, and expecting multiples.
