If I have an inverted nipple, does that mean that I can only breastfeed out of one breast?

By pregnantnews

My left nipple is iverted. I am 35 weeks pregnant and notice lately clearish whitish stuff elaking out of my right nipple occasionalyl but never out of my elft. I know it’s colustrum. But am just wondering, bc of this indication, and bc my elft nipple is inverted, does that eman I will only be able to breastfeed out of my right nipple?

is your nipple able to become erect? both my nipples are partially inverted.. but as long as they become erect there shouldnt be a problem.. although it does hurt more with an inverted nipple than with a non inverted nipple..

i also heard that a baby suckling can fix the inverted nipple problem.

yes i would say you would only be able to breastfeed out of the right one as the baby needs the nipple to latch onto..

No, sweetie! I had the same problem with my first. There are special little cup like things that you can put in your bra to help coax out your nipple. They have them at the hospital, and the nurse or lactation consultant can help you out. Good luck!

Not at all.
Talk to your doctor about it.
There are devices made for woman like yourself…. sometimes a cone can be worn over your breast to assist getting your nipple out for feeding.
Sometimes (probably pre-pregnancy) they can snip the tissue that is pulling your nipple in and it will not be inverted anymore… I am not sure if they can do it while you are pregnant, but ask.
It’s too complicated to type out, but there are ways to breastfeed.
You’ll have access to lactation consultants at the hospital, and talk to your obgyn.

Not all, both of mine are, and I am still breast feeding my daughter after 9 months!! Let me tell you though, it HURTS and is really hard….and really really hurts, i cannot stress that enough, the pain I went through trying to nurse was some of the worse pain I have ever ever been in…that includes labor and delivery…but I was determined and refused to give up, I guess it depends on how much back up support you have as well as how determined you are not to give up…if you are determined NEVER bring bottles in the picture, that contributed to 8 weeks of thrush for both my daughter and I …I had it in my ducts, and that was where most of my pain came from.

Nope, you should still be able to feed out of the left. You may need a nipple shield or something though..I’m not sure. I know it’s possible to do though! You’ll need to talk to a lactation consultant…they can help. Most of the nurses in L&D are also lactation consultants (in my hospital anyway)…WIC has lactation consultants or you can contact your local La Leche League.

i think you can still breastfeed from the inverted nipple

No supposedly if you were to use a nipple shield that should help pull the nipple out! A lactation consultant should have other tips! I haven’t breastfed yet but I’ve read alot on the subject.

You should have no problem nursing on both sides. Speak to a lactation consultant now so you can start to prepare. There are things you can do to help prepare yourself. They make a shield you can wear over your breast to help draw the nipple out, they also have a shield that can be worn while nursing or at least while latching the baby on. Both are made for people with inverted nipples.

I have a flat nipple and an invereted nipple, my doctor gave me these things to wear over my nipples for so long each day to help them “pop out” and they worked wonders! I actually started leaking colostrum from my left nipple at about 30 weeks then my right at about 38 so i think it’s normal for one breast to start earlier then the other. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and your new baby!

You should be able to breastfeed from an inverted nipple. I even think there is a shield that can help with it if it doesn’t become erect. Good luck!

no it does not. There are little suction things that you can get that will prepare your nipple for breast feeding ask your ob about it, your insurance probably covers them. Also it may be difficult for your baby to stay latched so be patient and keep trying. If needed get a breast pump, double electric, it will help A lot!! your insurance will probably cover that too if you talk to your doctor about it, if not contact your local wic office and they will point you in the right direction. You could also contact your local lactation consultant, most wic offices employ a few. Good Luck and don’t give up!!

I think it is possible but will likely cause some problems with the baby latching on etc. Speak with your doctor about it. You can also get help by seeing/talking with a lactation consultant.
Good luck!
Breast feeding is the best way to go if you can!

You can still nurse from it. At the hospital after you give birth ask the nurse for a npple sheild. It will draw out your nipple and help the baby to nurse on it. A lactose consultant will show you how to use it. It works great. I breastfed 2 kids with inverted nipples. They aren’t inverted anymore!! LOL
